Gmku (240), Asheville, North Carolina, USA Feb 24, 2008 A beautiful, warm, dark, sweet beer. Appearance wise, it’s as dark as an imperial stout, almost. But this is betrayed by the taste, which is deinitely sweeter and mellower. Lots of aroma of plum and grape, sort of a delicate port tast. Like an esibock almost but more drinkable, less overwhelming. There’s some alcohol in this but you sure don’t taste it. This is a wonderful "ice cream" of a beer, nice and thick and creamy. This is a new favorite of mine. Yum. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Feb 23, 2008 750 mL bottle - pours clear and dark brown with no head; banana and fruity aromas dominate; fruity flavor follows mixed in with some spice; drinks slightly creamy and relatively smooth KiDAcE (35), Canton, Ohio, USA Feb 22, 2008 Currently drinking: The aroma seems to be of fruits such as apricot and plums...grape as well. The flavor iS quite powerful it tastes more vegetarian than like fruit which was a tragic mislead for myself. The mouth feel iS a nice tingle with warming alcohol that iS well hidden but the bitter lingering aftertaste of seemingly celery leaves me to give this a seemingly low ranking for this brew. Everybody has different tastes. dkachur (2316), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Feb 21, 2008 12 oz. bottle from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Pours cloudy dark brown, like molasses. Aroma of banana and yeast. Mouthfeel is effervescent and light. Fruity taste. Just a tad bit of sourness at the end. This is excellent, and now I’m glad I ponied up for a four-pack! slimchill (773), Austin, Texas, USA Feb 19, 2008 Bottle. Strong cherry aroma with a little spice and caramel, followed by the characteristic Unibroue yeast nose. Dark scarlet color, thick and foamy beige head that holds its form against the glass indefinitely. Fruit upfront, a little too sweet but followed by a spicy sourness that evens things out a bit. Still a little unbalanced, but good overall. Creamy palate with a little carbonation on the middle of the tongue. DownsouthGav (602), Greater London, England Feb 18, 2008 Bottle. First of I opened the bottle and the beer spilt out for an inordinate length of time. So, off to a bad start there then! Nose of cream, raisins, some alcohol and malt. Pours a murky dark brown beer with (once all the beer had finished spewing out the bottle) a small brown head. Mouthfeel is soft, medium body. Malty, bready, sweet with a small burn of alcohol. Some cloying. Very much reminiscent of a belgian beer - since typed I’ve noted its classification - but not as well put together. All in all a not bad beer but the alcohol intrudes too much for me so I don’t share such a high rating as others. BritAlesRule (84), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Feb 16, 2008 Updated: Mar 12, 2008Agree with some that this beer lacks some of the depth of the Belgian Quads, still, belgian yeast character is there as well as some perfumed plum and other dark fruit and a decent palate. Side by side with the LaTrappe, this tastes like a Belgian copy rather than the truth... geez, have I become so snobbish? It’s a very good beer, maybe even in my top 10 or so on this continent. ScottB (73), Bristow, Virginia, USA Feb 12, 2008 I’ve had this on draught and from the bottle. Hard to find anything bad to say about it. One of my all-time favorites. An excellent brew.
