Commercial Description:
Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

Dark, dark brown beer. Super sugary sweet. Alcohol is clearly present. Highly active. Smooth and balanced.

Bottle at Byens Kro. Dark -> almost black - white head. Wheat, yeast, licorice, spicy, fruity, raisins, roasted, caramel - typical belgian characters - but not fantastic.

(Bottled) Very dark reddish brown color with a small head. Quite mild aroma of slightly roasted malt, licorice, lots of (dried) fruit and caramel with some lightly port-wineous feel. Coriander-anise-spicy, moderately hoppy, sweetish-roasted-malty, fruity flavor. Alcohol is completely hidden. Smooth, medium to full-bodied palate with very soft carbonation. A very pleasant and enjoyable, carefully crafted, balanced and stylish, very Rochefort-like brew.

Dark brown with fine large & lasting creamy white head & good lacings. Aroma of sweet malts, alcohol & dark fruits. Sweet earthy, dusty & aged taste. Again dark fruits like prunes and raisins & a bit of sugar. Very soft & smooth carbonation. filling body. Nice!

Plums, raisins, flowery notes and burned sugar in the aroma. Hazy Bordeaux color with a stable creamy head. Indeed a fruity Port flavor, dusty notes in the aftertaste. Surprisingly light body , dry but a bit fizzy mouthfeel - this makes the beer seem lighter than it really is...

Dark brown, with a medium sized head. Aroma was very fruity, must be the plums. Taste was very similar to plums as well, very fruity, not one I could drink everyday

Original rating April 22, 2004: Color is dark red, almost brown. Very good sized head. The aroma is strong with some spice. Flavor is slightly sweet with a roasted malt tinge as well as fruit and spice. I can see the similarities to Port. 8/5/8/4/17 Re-rating June 26, 2008: Okay, usually I just re-rate the ones that I think I wasn’t prepared for earlier in my beer career. This one... I loved the first time I had it, then the second and third time I thought it was disgusting. So now, my "real" rating. Dark brown color with a large head. Light aroma of coriander and stronger yeast. Dark and sweet malt flavor. The coriander is light and just supports the flavor, not overwhelming it. Some Belgian yeast and some chocolate. I think the main culprit is the coriander. I’m not a huge fan of it, but sometimes this one seems to turn into a coriander smoothie. Other times (like this one), it’s just perfectly balanced out.
