Lots of dark fruit and spice with a fizzy carbonation that dries it out. Sweet up front, but the carbonation breaks up the body keeping it from being too heavy. austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA

Hugely black with an invasively large tannish head that gets in the way of the pour almost instantly. Settles on its terms to a still-impressive bubbly/moussy head. Some slow-rising carb in the visible body. Big dark fruit nose with some sour tartness and even a little bit of the good wild Belgian horse blanket funk. Big, dark, assertive fruit attack with cleansing bubbles and a nice hollow fruit-pith finish. Clean hollow nothing once the beer’s gone down the zero. This is a deep dark rewarding and delicious beer. Cheers again to Unibroue. Theirs must be the best lineup of Belgians in the hemisphere. TaktikMTL (2786), Montréal-Nord, Quebec, Canada

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 21, 2008 Pours dark brown with a white head. Aroma is very fruity with hints of Belgian yeast. Very yeasty flavor. Some darker malts give off some nice fruity flavors as well . Spicy too. Very wine like. Aubrey (2778), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 3, 2003 Deep amber with a soapy (appearance) head. Smooth and thick on the palate; as I drank it, it seemed to thin out a bit, curiously (maybe it was just me). Warming alcohol was hidden well behind a thick and chewy yeastiness. Some subtle fruity aromas. Rather salty notes throughout, which was a minor turnoff. At times, some of its flavors reminded me of Chimay Bleu, which I liked. Overall, I found it pleasant and enjoyable to drink, though not as great as the hype may be. DuffMan (2774), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada

Thick aromas of dried figgy/plummy fruits, sweet spice, and raisin bread. Sweet palate, heavy mouthfeel, lots of complex flavours backed up by a warm alcohol finish. This was better the second time around. Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 1, 2006 On bottle best before date: 03-16-09. Consumed July 2006. Murky brown color with explosive tan head. Bubbled right out of bottle before I could even begin to pour. Aroma of sugar, yeast and maybe lime. Massive carbonation upon opening but now not so much. It is just about right. Flavor is sweet sugar, coriander, a bit of cinnamon, plums and raisins.
