Commercial Description:
Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

An amazing complex belgian, I expected alot from this one and it delivered on every front. The pour is beautiful, a dark extremely cloudy barleywine - esque appearance. Very little lacing, with a strong aroma and a fizzy soda like head. The taste that come out of each sip are so vastly different and complex. Everything from dates and figs and raisins, to dark fruits to complement the darkness of the style. Very winey, like a port, this would go nicely after dinner or on a cold winter night sitting around a fire. Has the ability to warm you up and put a smile on your face. The aroma alone is something to marvel over, you could just sit there and take in the aroma for quite awhile. I cannot wait to try this one again. Thanks Trappist!

Did you know that "Trois Pistoles" is French for "Three Pistoles"? just a litlle factoi to enhance your enjoyment of this beer. You can thank me later. Anyway, Its dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is like a cherry cordial - chocolate and cherry. Initial taste is a woodsy bitternessand a subtle wine fruitiness. Earthy, messy finish. As you continue to drink, a mellow walnut / burnt pecan flavor emerges. Enjoyable drinking experience.

Very satisfying pop of the cork, and gorgeous in the glass with a deep caramel color and lasting head. Aroma is understated, giving few hints of the plum, raisin, and apple cider flavors within. A match for most Belgian-made Belgians. The palate disappointed, however, being less lively than others in the style. Should be matched carefully with food--I found it did not work well with all the flavors on my plate at Thanksgiving dinner, 2002.

Bottle Nose of plums, spices, and a little caramel; Transparent cherry-brown. with a large, long-lasting, lacing, tan head; Flavor of dark fruits and malts, with spices that provide the finish; can’t hardly feel much alcohol.

12oz. Bottle: Very sweet aroma of ripe fruits. Smells of prunes, raisins, plums, and maple syrup. Poured ruby/purple in color with a HUGE tan head that mostly diminished but lasted throughout. No lacing. Cloudy. Almost opaque. Purple color looks like a Port or red wine. Sparkling. Flavor is moderately sweet and matches aroma well. Tastes of cola, grape, plum, raisins, and dark malts. Medium body. Sticky texture. Very fizzy carbonation. The properly stored bottle almost exploded. Too much fizz. Lightly sweet, medium dry finish. Overall, good beer I was not sure I would like.

One of the best Unibroue beers. A supremely well-crafted, rich yet not heavy, deep dark delight. Can’t say enough good things about this tasty morsel. Pours opaque with big head. Aromatic and yeasty. Fruity and slightly alcoholic.

33 cl bottle. What an amazing beer, dark brown colour, with a little white head. Amazing aroma of dried fruit. The taste are incredible too, smooth, tasteful and are amazing long aftertaste. One of the only not belgium beer, that taste like the real stuff....

(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm) Dark brown colour with ruby notes and firm beige head. Malty, yeasty and spicy nose with notes of port wine, chocolate, cherries and black-currant. Malty taste with notes of yeast, dark rye bread, dried fruit, blackberries, spices and hints of chocolate in the slightly vinous finish. Amazingly complex with all impressions mingling very well together in a nicely balanced brew. Brilliant stuff!
