Commercial Description:
Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

Bottled. Brown with a reddish hue. Thin tan head. Ripe raisin and sultana flavours. Slightly sweet flavour that lingers on the palate. Dark purple sediment in the bottom of the glass. No sign of the alcohol other then the spin in my head.

sampled at blind "Better Know a Style: Belgian Strong Ale" tasting 07. poured a wonderful mahogony with creamy off-white head. nose has cookie, molasses, yeasty, and cloves. flavor is nicely balanced with subtle spices, raisins, and plum. alcohol is well hidden.

330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. Dark brown beer with a huge beige head. Very fine and complex aroma with vinous notes, also notes of oak, spices, cocoa, red berries and dark fruits, hints of barnyard and tobacco. The flavour is sweet, vinous and fruity, quite smooth for 9% ABV beer. Moderate hops. Many of the elements of the aroma stay with you through the flavour and aftertaste. An excellent beer!

Pours bugundy/brown with thin head...smells yeasty, earthy fruity with a hint of grape...port is a very accurate description, but very short...very complex...sweet and yeasty...

Dark-dark brown and a fine big head. Real pure aroma and flavor of the typical strong belgian ale. Caramel. Well-balanced. And a bit boring.

Cloudy, dark brown color w/ a nice head, this beer is elegant. There are so many subtle fruity & spicey flavors that it was like tasting a fine wine. Don’t miss this one.

Pours a dark brown, with mediumish head. Aroma was great; yeast, bubblegum, dark fruit, brown sugar. Pretty good palate with some fizziness in the end (initially) and some throat warming. A sipper for sure. Flavor was similar to the aroma; fairly complex with dark malt, some caramel, candy sugar, some pepper.

For being a stout, I expected more form this brewery, but it was nice, with the bubbling and orange characteristics of Unibroue. NIce beer, for a nice meal.
