Terrific fragrance that is nearly indescribable, but suggests roses, berries, and a woodshop. Pleasing complex, organic flavor. Moderately sweet flavor of nectar. Soft palate. I totally dig this beer.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 2, 2006 Bottle was an enormous gusher, probably lost about half of its contents, but at least the room will smell nice for a while. Hazy deep-red beer that shines brown, loud and fizzy beige head. Too strongly carbonated. Smells of thick malt, belgian yeast, dark pitted fruit, raisins, light oranges, sweetish but restrained. Taste is layered and complex ... nuanced flavors. Full-bodied and roughly the consistency of port. Far from sludgy. Light, pleasant alcohol felt more through numbing than burning, but the latter could do with some calming. Yes, rather vinous texture. Sweetness is here but slight, and just slightly stronger than the balancing bitterness. Beautiful dark fruitiness and elegant maltiness. A subtle beer rather than a powerhouse. The classy adult entertainment for the evening. blutt59 (2169), Dallas, Texas, USA

Dark fruit, candy sugar, mild spice, malt and a hint of yeastiness. The body is a dark ruddy brown and holds a rapidly diminishing tan head. Plum and sweet rum soaked bread pudding like notes int he fore. Light spice. Some faint raisin notes and a bit of candied dark fruit again int he finish. This bottle was a year or so old and seemed to have gotten more sweet.

One of my favorites from Unibroue. The malt, fruit and candied fig flavors mesh with the alcohol well to make a well balanced and fun drinking beer. Silphium (2152), Haslett, Michigan, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 4, 2003 Opened up nicely after warming. Murky brown, with a thin tan head. Aroma is of sweet, fruity malts. Flavor is accentuated by alcohol warmth. Again, dark, sweet fruits hit home here, with hints of grape and caramel developing as the beer warms. Kind of thin-bodied, but the complexity makes up for this fact. zach8270 (2131), Henrietta, New York, USA

Spicy and sweet malt aroma with hints of dried fruits, cloves and licorice. The flavor is very spicy and fruity with those same licorice hints throughout and a finish that tastes exactly like grapes. Hides the alcohol well. Very sweet and fizzy. jsquire (2123), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 8, 2003 I drank this 12 oz. bottle (BB 05-07-06) out of my snifter. Dark, murky beer with an initial foamy head that settled into an active ring with nice lace. Nose of grape, apple, raisin and alcohol. Very fizzy on the tounge. Lots of dark fruit sweetness, like baked apples in brown sugar with rum raisins on top. Very nice sipping beer. It does feel very light for a 9%.
