Spicy and sweet malt aroma with hints of dried fruits, cloves and licorice. The flavor is very spicy and fruity with those same licorice hints throughout and a finish that tastes exactly like grapes. Hides the alcohol well. Very sweet and fizzy. TAR (2093), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 31, 2001 Updated: Apr 28, 2004Exceptional beer. Dark fruit,
vanilla, chocolate and caramel notes. And yet with all this complexity, its remarkable quaffable.
Update with no change in rating: One of the new and fresh bottles arriving locally wasn't at all the same as my earlier sampling. This one came out exceptionally attenuated. Sweet and fruitier flavors are masked by a definite and unwanted alcohol presence. The body was surprisingly thin. The sample would barely warrant a 3 rating, but I'm leaving my original until I can verify what's what. SSSteve (2071), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

A dark ruby-brown beer with a dense, beige head on top. Delicate sweet fruit aroma; raisins, plums, oranges, tangerines... Also fresh-smelling yeast, sweet chocolate and sweet licorice. Taste has a refined sweetness; dark dried fruits and tinned fruit cocktail comes to mind. Also a rich maltiness, leaving flavors of caramel and sweet coffee. Light sparkling, Champagne-like mouthfeel. Almost full-bodied. Pleasant fruity finish. Excellent brew! vyvvy (2044), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 8, 2006 Pours very dark brown with a bit of a reddish tint. Thick pillowy off-white head. Aroma has dark fruits, spice, earthy yeast and a rich malty sweetness. Medium to full bodied beer. Inital taste had dark fruits, spice and anise. During the intial taste the carbonation feels fairly soft, but then a fizziness kicks in and wipes out the taste and leads the way for the finish. The finish has more of a tart fruit flavor, spicy hops and earthy yeast. A very nice Belgium dark beer. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 3, 2004 During a stay at Epcot my wife suggested reservations for a steak restaurant she had heard was quite good at the Canadian area of the park. Steak sounded good despite the fact that I knew I would be charged probably like $45 for a $20 steak and having to suffer either a Moosehead or Molson to get it. I was surprised that they had this! Unibroue's beers are world class and this one is one of my favorites. Rich fruity aroma and complex malt and fruit flavors. An absolutely great beer.
