Gunk on the bottom of this unfiltered brew. Attractive off sweetish aroma, but clean and fresh. Ooooh, this stuff is smooth yet powerful. Really numbs up the taste buds with pleasure. You would never think of it as 10%, this is more like the flavor that was as low as 6%. Smooth and sly, sneaks the alky into you as if was a wheat or dunkleweizen. I bought this thinking it was wheat, well now I see it’s a strong ale. Medium to strong whisky and fruit background. Or is that wine soaked plums or bing cherries? Good creamy carbonation for a low level tingle. Finish is strangely middle of the tongue associated with alky bitter bite, it hangs for a while. dirtymike (2018), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 30, 2008 750ml bottle from BevMo. Near black and barely translucent in appearance with cherry accents when put to light. Audibly fizzing with a mossy and tan head. Aroma is one of a kind, with Fruity Pebbles, grapes, currant, black cherries, liquor-lacquered chocolate cherry cordials, prune juice, pepper and nutmeg. Rich and expressive flavor. Chocolate, cloves, pepper and figs invigorate while a wrap-around fruity nature comprised of plums and chocolate covered strawberries pull at the heart strings. Some cherry pipe tobacco and a spicy complex akin to Christmas (cranberries, orange peel and nutmeg.) Effervescent, but not over the top. Titillating on the palate. Balance speaks for itself, finishing with chocolate raspberry liqueur and a lasting holiday spice that sings its song long after each sip. cbkschubert (2005), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jun 28, 2006 A dark brown pour that is kind of red when held to the light. Light tan head that goes quick. An aroma of spicy clove and malt. A flavor of clove and fruit. The flavor is really alive in this beer. The mouth feel is a little over carboanated for my taste. This beer is a pleasant change up from your usual ipa, apa, and stouts. I have 6 and will probably drink them all my greedy assed self. mjg74 (2000), La Mesa, California, USA

Rich fruity flavor up front. Nice spicy kick. Alcohol is present in the finish. Nice warmer for a rainy winter night. beerbill (1970), Laurel, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 19, 2008 750 ml bottle. Pours a cloudy dark chestnut with a few scattered bubbles for a head that quickly disburse. Pleasant aroma of malt, dates, raisins and molasses. The flavor is similar with again malt, dates, raisins and molasses all present. The flavors are a tad watered down and seem tired. I received this as a gift, so perhaps this was an older bottle.
