Commercial Description:
Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

Bottle. Dark red-brown colour with a nice fluffy and creamy light brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, dark fruits, caramel and some chocolate. Flavour is smooth, roasty, quite fruity with plums and raisins, bitter-sweet chocolate, old port. Bitter hoppy finish. Taaaasty!!!!!

Red brown color, cloudy, frothy head. Excellent lacing. Cherry aroma. Fairly thin for such a strong beer. Cherry flavor, rather alcoholic with vanilla and a hint of sourness. A better thirst quencher as you might expect with the high alcohol content. Good beer, but IMO doesn't deserve the high rating. Or did I miss something? Re-rate: tap Café Morshuis Albergen. Buttery aroma and flavor. Apple. The high ABV is hardly noticed. Butterscotch. Diacetyl. Likeable but better from the bottle. The above rating is for the bottled version.

A Sim rate (bottle at Quinns): One of the most complex aromas I have ever smelled. First things that jump out are coconut and blueberry. Definite orange, brown sugar, caramel and a slight (though not unpleasant) alcohol. DAMN! The aroma is intoxicating enough on its own. The flavour is similar with even more coconut. Corriander. Red wine. Not quite as good as the aroma and the alcohol hit is a bit too fierce, but still lovely. Tingly on the tongue and down the throat. Fine, fine ale.

Stunning brown colour, very hazy, with orangy sides. Not much head, slightly beige. Powerful aroma with oranges, plums. VEry high carbonated with a champagne feel. Sweet, but with roasted malts as well as a powerful flavour of dried fruits, such as raisins, plums and suchlike. Not too vinious despite the 9 %. Some sweet spices as well, coriander and cinnamon. Stunning!

This is a wonderful Belgian Strong Ale. It has a fairly high ABV of 9%, but it is hidden well in it complex taste.

on tap @Brass Tap near Tampa-pours a light tan ring for a head with some lacing and dark brown color. Aroma is dark malt, clove, some clove, some dark fruit-raisin. Taste is dark malt-molasses, then plenty of clove, some dark fruit-raisin, yeast-banana. Slight herbal hops.

Dark brown with a red gleam. The head is dense, generous and it accompanies you through your journey. Malty and fruity aroma of grape. The taste is complex: an adequate balance of chocolate, roasted caramel, cherries, grapes, spices, yeast (less than Unibroue's standard). A light alcohol (not quite well-hidden, but about what I expect from good belgians of this ABV) bitterness joins you until the end. It's a rich and complex beverage, but while it's probably not overrated, I prefer many other belgian strong ales to this one..
