Med. body with a prickly mouthfeel. Great taste same as the aroma is spicy, yeasty, vinous, and sweet with ginger bread, cloves, and dark caramels. Has a tangy spice/alcohol taste to finish. Good stuff. 81105 Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA

Tastes like a red wine, loads of raisins, cherries, grapes, vanilla with a slight peppery spice. Complex to say the least. Alcohol is very well hidden. Scary ass logo of a flying horse and a castle! I cant wait to try this again! Rerate: For the most part I think Unibroue is overrated but this masterpiece is an exception. After sampling many Belgians and having this again, I will up the rating! What an amazing beer. Why is this not in the Top 50?! It should be. swoopjones (1920), Buffalo, New York, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 9, 2005 Bottle from Beers of Europe. Deep black/burgundy colour, with a small ring of mottled froth. Faintly potent aroma of jelly, choc and icey Xmas pud. Very easy to gulp, a supremely balanced and flavoursome mix of root beer, herbs, caramel and vodka, with a smooth hit on the finish. Very tasty indeed - no way a 9%! Kevin (1918), Colorado, USA
