Aroma is dominated by and old nuttiness, lightly dusty caramels and sweet vapor. Pours of ruddied mahogany, soapy lightly in off-white. Flavor behaves similarly aged, with sherried, oxidized yeast. There’s unique and peculiar spice musk and dried fruit, but everything is very muddled and mixed. Finishes a nip sticky. LinusStick (1848), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

The aroma was of yeast, fruit and some malt. The taste was full. If you took dates, plums and malt and put them in an oven for an hour, put them in a blender and added alocohol you would have this. Delicious and different. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 23, 2003 Pours a very cloudy amber with a head composed of small bubbles that is fading quickly, leaving bits of lace. Big apple aroma at the beginning sloping down into some malt and some hops. Very nice. Flavor reflects the aromas. Ripe fruit (apple and pear) start out this enjoyable beer, leading into a bit of a bready/yeast flavor. The body is slightly carbonated with a musky finish, but that's not the right word I'm looking for. The alcohol is very well covered up and this happens to be a very balanced Belgian. thegreenrooster (1842), St.louis, Missouri, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 28, 2004 Pours clear, gorgeous reddish color with a small off white head that mostly diminished. Aroma is sweet, fruity and yeasty with spice notes and a mild floral hoppiness. Flavor is divine, sweet dried fruits, maltiness, spice and a lingering bitter-sweet finish. Nice mouth-feel with full body and easy carbonation. Definitely one of my favorite of the belgian styles. I sure hope that the quality and flavors don't suffer now that Sleeman has purchased Unibroue!!! Dorwart (1826), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA

Excellent color and clarity of dark red/brown. Somewhat fruity aroma initially then the alcohol kicks in. Not a beer for the faint of heart. Warms you as you drink it. Hints of a rich wine taste. Finishes smooth and clean and with an alcohol kick. Definately a sipping brew. Excellent brew and one to savor.
