Re-rate 8/26/09. Trying this 3 years after the original with tons more experience under my belt. Pours a dark brown with a quickly retreating head. Aroma is all of heavy scents. Dark wine, malts and heavy grape. Taste leaves a sharp tingle on the tongue with a dry finish. Heavy flavors also accompany the aroma. Not satisfying but damn good. Tastes of an IPA? What the fuck was I on? dmac (1507), Toms River, New Jersey, USA

Poured a dark brown with red highlights and a large off white head. There was some visible sediment floating around in this one. Aroma was yeasty and sweet with notes of dark fruit, raisins and brwon sugar. Flavor was slightly weaker then the aroma but sweet and had a nice mouthfeel about it from the lively carbonation which reminded me of champagne. Very nice beer but I still prefer Maudite. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 3, 2008 Beer # 900 for me. A huge tan head jumps from the glass during the pour. Dark brown beer with lots of red, it is almost the same color as the bottle. Aroma is full of sweet malt, fruit, and alcohol. Flavor is full of sweet dark fruit, sugar, yeast, wheat, and caramel. Very much a "Belgian feel" to this one. An enjoyable and interesting beer but not quite as good as expected. shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA

Almost looks like wine but it has a lingering creamy head that is thin but always present. Sweet smell, malty. This would be a good way to transition from a wine drinker to a beer drinker. Very tiny hint of the alcohol. Pretty good. jkwalking05 (1501), Arlington, Texas, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 16, 2009 Medium to dark brown, tall, frothy head, slowly creeping down. Brune malt aroma, Belgian yeast, earth. Relatively sweet flavor, malty. Caramel, fruit, alcohol. Chocolate. Sweet malty finish balanced with lots of alcohol heat, port. Ok Belgian Abbey-style brune, but nothing really great. Better than the sweet types, as this is not cloying at all, but better than average. Relatively rich and flavorful. Mouth is raisins, plums, something sweet, possibly cranberries? MaiBockAddict (1499), Good Beer Bar Deprived, New Jersey, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Dec 31, 2003 Nice brown color with lasting off white head. Classic fruity aroma, of dried fruit that reminds me of many of the great abbey ales. Mix of carmel and frit for flavor. Well balanced and the alcohol is well hidden. Wonderful beer.
