Pours murky brown to very dark red, nice tan head although its fast vanishing. Aroma is incredible, spices, dark fruits, candi, chocolate, some red wine notes as well, could smell at this for hours! Flavor is very port alike, spicy, dark fruits, peppery. It has a good alcohol warmth also, rather highly carbonated. Very nice one, got to purchase some more, i think itll age very well. I still really enjoy this beer, but the initial 4.8 is a touch high. There are so many things to find in this beer. Plum, cherry, anise, sour apples, some nice spice and a hint of yeast. Very well done, indeed. 12/20/2001: My first impression of Unibroue, and I was highly impressed. I loved the fruit. Oh, and the head, marvelous. Excellent Belgian Strong syle. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 25, 2006 12 oz bottle. Clear burgundy brown. Tan head builds quickly and slowly fades with some lace. Sour yeast, cola and spices. I’ve had this several times but can’t get used to the taste. Mostly sweet but seems artificial and medicinal. Caramel apple gets an odd sourness with metallic vegetal notes. Medium body; a bit fizzy. dmac (1449), Toms River, New Jersey, USA

Poured a dark brown with red highlights and a large off white head. There was some visible sediment floating around in this one. Aroma was yeasty and sweet with notes of dark fruit, raisins and brwon sugar. Flavor was slightly weaker then the aroma but sweet and had a nice mouthfeel about it from the lively carbonation which reminded me of champagne. Very nice beer but I still prefer Maudite. Distinctive belgian unibroue yeast aroma, sweet with cloves and spices. Sweet prunes, raisins, dark fruit, chocolate, and a little warming alcohol. Dry and overcarbonated in the finish. The overcarbonation becomes distracting and annoying, once i swirl for a while and release some more of the carbonation it finishes a little smoother and more enjoyable.
