Distinctive belgian unibroue yeast aroma, sweet with cloves and spices. Sweet prunes, raisins, dark fruit, chocolate, and a little warming alcohol. Dry and overcarbonated in the finish. The overcarbonation becomes distracting and annoying, once i swirl for a while and release some more of the carbonation it finishes a little smoother and more enjoyable. dchmela (1440), Orlando, Florida, USA

Re-rate 8/26/09. Trying this 3 years after the original with tons more experience under my belt. Pours a dark brown with a quickly retreating head. Aroma is all of heavy scents. Dark wine, malts and heavy grape. Taste leaves a sharp tingle on the tongue with a dry finish. Heavy flavors also accompany the aroma. Not satisfying but damn good. Tastes of an IPA? What the fuck was I on? nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

Flavor is of the same fruits, malt and a little alcohol to warm. Body was medium-heavy and the carbonation was medium-high. Great beer. robinvboyer (1429), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada

Seeing how i can’t get Chimay blue on a regular basis in Ontario, this is a perfect replacement, and im even starting to enjoy it more than the Chimay. Keep it up Unibroue! Cherry, plum/raisin. Lite sherry. Corriander. 1st pour was clean with good head, 2cd pour slight haze, third pour cloudy. Nice lacing too. Bitter spiced flavors, like aroma, has a balsa wood too. Medium body, creamy oily mouthfeel, bitter fruit finish. Still hot, not that much though. This one has grown on me over the years. Warms up nicely. adrian910ss (1425), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 1, 2005 Black. Dense, bubbly, off-white head. Yeast, light and dark fruits-both fresh and dried, roasted malt-aroma. Accurate commercial description. Definite port flavors with some yeast, roasted malt, dark fruits, touch of subtle alcohol near the finish, also. Full bodied, plenty of carbonation but it somehow stays in the background, yeasty aftertaste. Drinks very easy at 9%. Beware the pale rider.
