Commercial Description:
Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

Bottle, from Julio’s. 2005 vintage, Best by 08/09/08. Good nose, fruity spicy. Cherry, plum/raisin. Lite sherry. Corriander. 1st pour was clean with good head, 2cd pour slight haze, third pour cloudy. Nice lacing too. Bitter spiced flavors, like aroma, has a balsa wood too. Medium body, creamy oily mouthfeel, bitter fruit finish. Still hot, not that much though. This one has grown on me over the years. Warms up nicely.

Dark and ripe, like they say, and I love Unibroue, but this is one of my least favorites.

4 pack of 12 ozers. Poured into a Karmeliet tulip glass. Poured a dingy brown with a one finger brown head. Aroma is of dark, sweet over-ripe fruit some caramel, yeast and some spices. Low to moderate lacing. Flavor is of the same fruits, malt and a little alcohol to warm. Body was medium-heavy and the carbonation was medium-high. Great beer.

Black. Dense, bubbly, off-white head. Yeast, light and dark fruits-both fresh and dried, roasted malt-aroma. Accurate commercial description. Definite port flavors with some yeast, roasted malt, dark fruits, touch of subtle alcohol near the finish, also. Full bodied, plenty of carbonation but it somehow stays in the background, yeasty aftertaste. Drinks very easy at 9%. Beware the pale rider.

Bottled 33cl. It pours a hazy dark brown beer with green!? reflects. Moderately tanned, nicely remaining tall head. Vitamin tablets, oranges and candy in the nose which is accompanied by a milky component. Some fudge and figs showing up too. An excellent aroma. Full bodied. Smooth mouthfeel. Vitamin tablets and exotic fruits in the taste. A hint of incense. A port-like characteristic showing up. Wonderfully spicy. Berries, fudge, lemon peel, coriander, cinnamon and thyme appearing. Wonderful finish with hints of oranges and lemon peel. Some bready hints sneaking in. Deeply complex, unique and enjoyable.

330 ml bottle. Reddish black. Thick fine laced head. Marzipan and apricot aroma. Some apple aroma. Sweetness in the nose. Oily texture. Marzipan on the palate. Roasted, soft, malts. Some hoppy notes that lingers on the tongue. Well rounded.

750 mL bottle - pours clear and dark brown with no head; banana and fruity aromas dominate; fruity flavor follows mixed in with some spice; drinks slightly creamy and relatively smooth
