Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

[Sampled at bænken in 2005.] Brewed by the brewer of Chimay, therefore it makes reminders to Chimay Bleue, but some truely differents are visible. More oaky and portvinously with a complex fullbodied sweettaste.

Bottle @ Gulden Duvel, Burgos. Ruby red / brown colour, medium off-white head. Aroma of dark fruits and slightly toasted malts. Flavour of dark dried fruits, yeast, brown sugar and a hint of chocolate. Alcohol well hidden. Nice sweet-sour aftertaste. Excellent beer.

I didn’t want to like this stuff after it exploded all over my stuff after a bumpy ride back from BevMo. But it is a solid offering from Unibrow. Dark reddish-brown with a tan head that takes forever to go down (again, it was shaken up). Aroma is cola, red wine, raisins, spices, and Belgian yeast. Has a sweet Coke-like taste with some dark fruit flavors and spices, and the alcoholic kick that you expect from a Belgian strong ale. Full palate.

Dark purple brown. . . fluffy light brown head that out of which floats vanilla, plum, and nutty aromas. Wonderfully complex, creamy and smooth. Spicy and delicious. The big malts and alcohol soothe the senses, gorgeous.

Bottle. Pours dark, almost impenetrable brown with a decent sized off-white head. Dark candied fruits and some nice spice dominate the aroma. Fairly rich on the palate. Decent flavor profile: raisins, fruitcake, plum, yeast and a hint of alcohol. is this really deserving of a 4.02? This is good.... but a 4? Really?

Dark fruit malt aroma, sweet fruit malt taste, not heavy with a big wonderful backwash of sweetness on the tongue, flavors start fading a little but the sweetness hangs on. Another fabulous Unibroue success

Deep dark mahogany in color, ruby tinted, with a bit of greyish head. It’s bracingly COLD outside! and I really need a brew like this. Aromas bring to mind red grape, chocolate, alcohol, toffee, a hint metallic. Even a touch of authentic indescribably Belgian funk. Tastes of pears, raisins, chocolatey port. Prickly and lingering in the mouth. Nice warming - about the right speed for winter weather in MN.

Very foamy dark brown beer. Aroma is sort of bready with lots of fig and cherries. Not as fruity in the flavor as the yeast seems to dominate the taste. Slight alcohol burn. As I continue drinking I get some molasses on my tongue. Not my favorite from this company but still very good.
