A 10-year-old 1996 bottle revealed a decadent aroma of maderized berry sugars...Carbonation had lowered with time, but it still let the flavors express themselves freely...A marvelous aging experiment...(the same cannot be said of Maudite). MoritzF (5067), Bochum, Germany
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 9, 2007 (bottle) Hazy, mahogany colour with a fluffy, laceless beige foamy head. Dusty, sweet malty, almost flowery, moderately fruity and spicy aroma with a present, vinous alcoholic note. Sweet flavour, full bodied with a well-carbonated mf. Chewy malt-character, raisin-fruity, slightly molassy; sweet, vinous, but also alcoholic finish. A bit too fat for my taste. madsberg (5065), Søborg, Denmark

Fruits and spices in the aroma. Yeast, malt and alcahol is dominant in the flavour. Ends with some alcaholburnt and sweetness. Nice one, that I will try again under other conditions. Taste is very sweet with hints of raisins and bananas. Ner perfect in carbonation. One of the best beers I’ve had from this brewer. Excellent beer! JoeMcPhee (5030), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jan 7, 2004 I've had this beer many times and am always amazed by how quickly I forget just how good it is. Very dark brown with a hint of yellow, sort of like a tawny port. Smells of raisins, dark toasty malt, and a hint of fruity yeastiness as well as some obvious clove scent. A decent tan-coloured head, although I've noticed that this varies substantially from bottle to bottle. Taste is very complex, starting out with a rich fruity peach/apricot. Sweet malt in the middle and leaves a long-lasting spicy finish. Absolutely fantastic., my favourite to date. yngwie (5024), Kristiansand, Norway

Candi-sweetness, caramell, blackcurrant and dried fruits (figs?) in the aroma. The flavor is lightly roasted, with a gorgeous candi-sweet fruitiness and some hops. Light dusty in the mouth, yet with a fizzyness. The finish is sweet and bitterdry with the alcohol shining though. A very good and balanced beer. (060422) ¾ (5006), Boulder, Colorado, USA

Initially harsh, then medium bodied with some light fruit and wood flavors, then finally a sweet bite of sugar mixed with spices and plum. Quite nice. Cornfield (4972), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA

Very aromatic - perhaps like marmalade with a hint of nuts and spices. Strong alcohol presence. It has a tart, spicy finish - not unpleasant in the mouth.
