This beer is a superb and luxurious experience. The aroma is intoxicating and transcendent even before the first sip. The nectar of the gods could not exceed it by much, pleasure greater than this would be illegal.
It explodes in the mouth like a low voltage rush, filling the pores with an electrifying yet warm surge of mellow flavor. There are shades of Port, but a distinct and original flavor unlike any other.
The aftertaste is thin and does not linger, like the fleeting sensation of a drug-induced heightened awareness that makes no sense on return to normal consciousness.
The head effect is light and ethereal, an easily controlled giddiness, a sensation worth the price of admission.
Rerate 4/06. I just bought a 12 oz. bottle. What a huge difference. I wouldn’t give it more than a 3.2. a huge dissapointment.
How could a beer be so different by being put in a smaller bottle? It makes no sense, yet it is a fact. ONLY buy the 22 oz bottle or bigger.

The aroma hits you right away, not over powering and not lite. Slow pour brings a dark brown color with a lot of tastey head. Great flavor, gets better with every sip. Palate stays with you for awhile . A must try. Cheers Canada! xav33 (313), Midland, MI, Michigan, USA

12 oz bottle
Medium pour in a tulip glass
Best before 10/08, plucked 11/06
Poured a dark murky ruddy brown with a large light brown frothy mostly lasting head.
Smelt of whole wheat bread, raisins, cinnamon, molasses, dark fruit.
Taste was upfront moderate to strong, yet perfectly balanced bitter, sweet and sour, with raisins, coffee, roasted grain, bitter spruce, dark fleshy fruit, followed by a strong spicier and maltier taste, less sourness, notes of good port or brandy, on an exquisite finish. Palate was medium bodied, creamy and velvety, lively carbonated, and light to moderate astringency.
Overall, there is so much to enjoy in this beer, it deserves multiple sittings. Classic.

It did not disappoint. Truly wonderful beer, on of the best I’ve ever tried. Aromas of dark fruits and sweet flavours in the mouth. I have several bottles in my cellar, and can’t wait to try this again in 5 years! rmussman (906), California, USA

Goes down amazingly smooth with a nice aftertaste. A truly great brew. Ambrose (141), East Aurora, New York, USA

Half a gallon of this is my best friend. I enjoyed it very much, and afterwards my growler and I have decided to reveal ourselves to the jedi. corby112 (773), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Massive 3 finger frothy dark tan head with excellent retention, only slowly fading to a lasting cap that leaves chunks of soapy lacing in it’s wake.
Dark malty aroma with a lot of estery dark fruit and peppery spice. Silky chocolate and caramel malt as well as some toffee notes along with hints of raisin, plum, fig, sour dark cherries and fig.
Carbonated up front with some smooth roasted malt, sweet dark fruit, candy sugar body with a dry and bitter yet sweet roasted finish. Dangerously quaffable with the high ABV being very well masked. Only a very slight hint of alcohol warmth.
Nice chocolate malt flavor that is roasty, but not too much so. Lots of estery dark fruit notes, especially raisin, fig, plum and sour dark cherry along with sweet candy sugar notes. Very well balanced. Highly recommended! cyrenaica (440), Milton, Ontario, Canada

I tried this beer on January 17, 2008 at "Smokeless Joe’s" in Toronto. I’ve been trying to get a hold of this for a while but it has been rather elusive. The beer poured a dark brown, with a thick creamy tan coloured head that lingered a few minutes. The aroma was sweet malt, some yeast, some dark fruit, and some spices. The mouthfeel was creamy, full-bodied, with high carbonation. The flavour was malty, sweet, yeasty...with a little licorice.
