Very dark brown with a hint of yellow, sort of like a tawny port. Smells of raisins, dark toasty malt, and a hint of fruity yeastiness as well as some obvious clove scent. A decent tan-coloured head, although I've noticed that this varies substantially from bottle to bottle. Taste is very complex, starting out with a rich fruity peach/apricot. Sweet malt in the middle and leaves a long-lasting spicy finish. Absolutely fantastic., my favourite to date. ThomasE (5178), Copenhagen, Denmark

Aroma is heavenly, you can sit with your nose in thiss stuff for hours. Strong malts, some sweetness with dark grapes. Flavor is also very good, malty and sweet, lots of fruit. tupalev (2618), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 4, 2004 Bottle. Dark brown pour. Very flowery aroma - roses?? - not your typical unibroue aroma. Nice malt taste, unibroue yeast taste present but not distracting - balanced well. Strong alcohol presence as well but again, balanced well. A fantastic beer, well done. Mathis (48), KBH K, Denmark
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 31, 2004 A nice large head, with a dark brown and hazy body. Has a good and sweet, but not that strong aroma. On the other hand is it the one of best beer flavors i have ever tried! Roasted malt and nuts makes a bit bitter, but the variouse fruits makes it equal sweet! Very spicy and full of different flavors ... A F***ing good beer adventure! It is very tasty without biting bitterly ind your mouth, and is has a PERFECT consistency with the ultimate balance of bobles... I gotta drink more of these beers! jcanj (23), Michigan, USA

I really like the Belgians and this is the best I have had in this category. When they say it is similar to a port wine...it really is. It is a nice dark beer and the head really depends on the bottle. One bottle I had there was a nice head and another there was almost no head. The spice and flavors are very pleasent. | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Dec 22, 2004 This is one of my favourites. I was hoping the stores here would get a 750’er and then rate it but no. They have no love for the Trois Pistoles.. wankers. Very complex taste, one to ponder, of licorice, blackcherry, plum/raisin. Sweet and smoothe. Aroma follows in the footsteps of just the right taste in my opinion. Alchohol is hidden. I can’t believe I ran out:( vaaaa ryananderson (74), Ontario, Canada
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Sep 2, 2005 This beer, which is one of my favourites, has the typical Unibroue yeasty aroma as well as some plum and hints of bread. Pours a large off-white head which doesn’t last as long as desired. Colour is a hazy dark brown. Flavour is well balanced: starts with light sweetness and bitterness and finishes with light-to-moderate sweetness and bitterness. A light fruity sweetness flavour remains for a long time after each sip. I find it hard to tell how dense this beer is because of the lively carbonation but I think it is medium to full body. There is also a nice warming effect from the alcohol in the finish. mrnutsnbolts (204), Berkeley, California, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 8, 2005 Bottle, 2004 vintage. This is one of the best beers that I’ve had so far. After not liking a few Belgian style ales, I was very skeptical when a friend brought a bottle over to split. Poured a viscous brown with a thick creamy head that lasted for a long time. The aroma was enticing - plums, port, cherries and roasted malts. Tasted like a cross between an excellent tawny port, a barleywine, and dried fruit. I’m definately going to be trying other Unibroue beers.
