The dark blood red-purple color was a superb. Tastes so sweet to start, then turns sour, and then just the right amount of hops in the finish...incredible. I also got a hint of chocolate after licking my lips! Does share similar charactertistics with dark wine in the dry aftertaste, but that’s not a bad thing. The only neagative was that the carbonation was a bit on the extreme side, unfortunately. Superb, and closer to a wine than a beer in my eyes. hoppyman (34), Quebec, Canada

Head has nice lacing and a slight off-white colour. Scent has slight alcohol presence, fruit plum scent is also present. Slight yeasty scent. Taste is malty, yeasty and fruity. Very subdued flavour. Reminds me of Rochefort 10, but with a more pronounced raison/plum flavour. Finish is light and crisp though. Very good. Its like eating christmas pudding in a glass.

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 18, 2005 Pours really dark with a thick brown head. The aroma is of chocalate/carmel, with a hint of fruits. The carbonation of this beer is similar to another Unibroue; Maudite. The flavor is very smooth yet relly complex. Great beer. Don’t know if this is aged in oak barrels, but I feel like I can taste smoky wood. Tastes like one of the best and most unique beers I can imagine. Smells like ripe (almost overripe) exotic fruit and wine. The palate is thick and extremely complex. Long, wonderful dry finish. Clearly a winner, a favorite. billism (42), Missouri City, Texas, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 9, 2007 Dark amber pour. Medium light tan head. sweet fruity/raisin aroma, slightly "citrusy". Smooth on the tongue, after the fizz quickly goes away. Awesome sweet flavor. Hints of berries/raisin, and fig. After taste lingers sweetly making me want more. One of my favorites. I am so glad this one is easy to get ahold of. Sincere (145), wichita, Kansas, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Sep 4, 2006 12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a very substantial thick head with light mocha coloring that leaves good lacing. There’s only a bare hint of fruit in the aroma; smells slightly like wine, or oddly enough, grape soda. The taste starts quick with a malty-fruit explosion of grape with the mid-taste being slighly less intense but full of banana esters and a bit of melon. The finish is earthier and the aftertaste is that of almonds. The palate is very silky, with a perfect amount of mouthfizz. That slight warm presence of alcohol is every easy on the stomach. An excellent strong ale.
