There are so many subtle fruity & spicey flavors that it was like tasting a fine wine. Don’t miss this one. mutant (854), Melbourne, Australia

Big initial malt flavour which seems slightly roasted. Slightly sweet with dark fruit notes but also some bitter elements. Really complex & winey in a great way. Absolutely to my taste. Full body and flavor, without apparent alcohol, but still has a certain kick to it. My bottle was about 14 months past the best before date- but it still kicks ass. There was nothing bad about it despite the old age- in fact the age may have made the flavors even better. Very smooth and drinkable, with so much complexity. Dark color and nice head. Very spicy, with some coriander, and finishes off with a nice port/wine taste. maxhits (172), Pico Rivera, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 19, 2002 This is a strong, dark ale that weighs in with a 9% alcohol-by-volume rating. It is a living beer, undergoing refermentation (secondary fermentation) in the bottle. It pours with a dark brown color and a very thin foam head that disappears very quickly. This ale is brewed with a roasted malt, which explains its dark color and its slightly nutty (hazelnut) aroma. This ale also features dark fruit aromas, plum in particular, and some have likened the smell to a fine glass of Port (fortified wine from Portugal or Spain).
In flavor, this ale has a lively mouthfeel and is surprisingly light for such a high-alcohol beer. The texture is smooth and the flavor is fruity and round, turning slightly sweet at mid-palate, and ending with a mild amount of warmth, a slight but of sourness, and a gentle amount of hop bitterness. This is a complex, structured ale featuring many different flavor experiences and a pleasing aftertaste that makes for very easy drinking.

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 27, 2007 Very dark reddish brown with a bubbly tan head. Nice retention and a bit of lacing. Ample carbonation with some dark fruit in the aroma and a tart plummy overtone. The malt underbelly is nutty with some sweetness and a warming finish that creeps up. This beer hides its alchohol content well, drinking very smoothly. The sprightly carbonation tickles the tastebuds, receding into a lightly sweet brown sugar finish. This is, as they say, all that and a can of beans. spaque99 (7), USA does not count | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 15, 2002 My favorite beer in Quebec.
