Smells of nuts and spices and very ripe fruits. Taste is much of the same, with lots of malt and caramel flavor as well. Aftertaste lingers longer than any beer I’ve ever tasted. Very carbonated and surprisingly easy to drink. Excellent excellent beer... quite possibly my favorite. Grovlam (3825), Copenhagen, Denmark

Head was huge off-white and very fizzy that mostly lasted. Excellent lacing. Hazy dark brown color. Close to perfect appearance in my book. Aroma was complex. The first sniff is clear Belgium yeast with an array of other notes. Caramel, wood, grain, licorice, nutty, molasses, light chocolate, some celery like sharp notes, date, prune, peach, port. This one leaves and impression of being very unique in the bouquet. Nothing I have ever experienced before. Full bodied with a fizzy carbonation and light alcoholic texture. Moderated sweet flavor, not much bitterness here. Sweet fruity and light alcoholic finish. Excellent! daniel0017 (232), Ontario, Canada

Aroma of carrageenan and freshly baked cinnamon rolls. The flavor is a maelstrom of malts, spices (nutmeg, carrageenan and cinnamon) sweet, ripe fruit hits you later in the aftertaste. The finish is warm, sweet velvety smooth. Heathen (810), Riverside, New Jersey, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 13, 2006 Bottle. Poured a dark brown with a large off-white head that quickly became paper thin. Dark fruit (black cherry and plum maybe) and yeast aroma. Much carbonaton. Caramel, chocolate and brown suger aromas developed as it warmed. These aromas all come through in the flavor as well, but not as strong with the addition of sweet molasses and some coffee as it warmed in both the aroma and flavor. But dark fruits were the primary flavor. I keep coming back to this beer from time to time. It is very good. jredmond (1068), New Jersey, USA

Very easy to drink considering the high alc content. SECOND TASTING: Havent Had this beer in over a year, but 300 and some beers later, it’s even better than I remember. Sampled this back to back with the Maudite at Shorty’s in NYC. THIRD TRY::: Bottle split with Pat. Pours a dark stout like body. Aroma suggests that this beer is anything but a roasty stout - with notes of spice, malt, and sweet sugar. Taste is unbelievably smooth. Great flavor. BeerVirgin72 (814), Pataskala, Ohio, USA

Dark brown with nice creamy head. Smelled of sweet malts and fruit. Taste was molases, caramel, malts, plums, raisins, even a hint of black licorice, followed with some cinnamon or some spicey finish...VERY delightful Belgian. theviolet (169), New York, New York, USA

Got it in a 750 ml bottle (which I will be keeping for my home brew). Poured into a wine glass a very dark reddish purple with a big foamy head that soon diminished. I allowed this one to warm up a little before sampling. The aroma consisted of sweet fruits perhaps grapes, cherries, and maybe even plums. Finally it was time to try a taste and the flavors bursted inside of my mouth. This dark ale is very unigue in that it drinks like a beer, but finishes almost like a red wine. Good carbonation and rather smooth to drink, I enjoyed sipping on this for a good while. The strong alcohol content is masked by all of the complex flavors in this beer. Wonderful experience, not an everyday selection but worth the price for a long cold night.
