Pours a very dark, murky brown with moderate beige head which mostly dissipates. Thin lacing throughout. Very, very pleasant aroma of dark fruit (raisin, fig, plums), slight caramel and vanilla, wood and hint of alcohol. Also well-carbonated throughout. Wonderful flavor and excellent finish of dark fruit. Yes, it has a kick but to me is well hidden. It is enticingly smooth & mellowfor its style and ABV. Yeast formations remain with head. Getting better as I partake of this great beer - a rival to the trappists IMO and cannot wait to have my 2nd - Cheers! Dervock (183), Emu plains, Australia

It pours to a great head made up of nice tight small bubbles and settles to hold a head which....looks a bit like an Irish Coffee!
This is a complex beer and not one which is easy to describe, the flavours change from the first taste right through to quite a drawn out aftertaste Listigovers (103), Ontario, Canada

The head starts out tall like a cooking pot soaking in soap bubbles, but dies down. Deep, dark brown. Dark rose-black in the light. Thick and mega-cloudy; opaque.
The smell is thick and grainy like a dark barleywine. Hints of dark grape. Heavy alcohol and port wine aroma. Almost like a red wine in the nose.
The taste is lots of port wine and grainy sour malt flavors. Puckery and tart. Heavy alcohol finish. Dark stone fruits; grape and plum. Belgian spices at the end when it warms up.
The feel is smooth and buttery but a little thick. Not at all gritty. Milky but smooth. It’s like a sour, ripe barleywine or strong ale. Tremendous to nurse for a long time. Great. amckee (11), Plano, Texas, USA

Very drinkable beer, though too pricey to have often. Deep, dark aroma reminiscent of cocoa and raisins. Hints of grapes on the first few sips and then the malt and alcohol come through to balance it out very nicely. Alcohol taste lingers a bit to keep you warm. Very nice beer. WLG423 (82), Connecticut, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 4, 2009 Dark pour. Sour yeasty aroma with lots of dark fruit and a subtle citrus notes and some slight dry sweet fruit, primarily pear. Flavor continues the dark fruit character with a quickly fading carbonated feel. The fruit sweetness begins the flavor that is followed by the more sour yeast character. Finishes smoothly with a nice sweet flavor. DenisLD (20), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 12, 2009 Cloudy reddish-brown body with a nice rich head. The smell is typical for Unibroue, but with its own darker character (cherry, plum, red grape). The flavour is very intense; sweet, yeasty and fruity. The finish lingers with a port-wine character and some breadiness. The alcohol is very well-masked in this one, and the mouthfeel is extremely pleasant. Great one!
