Commercial Description:
Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

355ml bottle. Best before 5/7/06 Pours a full tan head, a deep brown color, hazy, opaque. CO2 rolling up along the edges of the lacing. The aroma is malty, spicy, and earthy with a background presence of alcohol and some tartness. The taste is sweet, roasted, and spicy, with a tart middle and a dry finish that lingers with liquorish and sassafras. A medium bodied mouth-feel with sufficient effervescence. A well-rounded brew. Not overpowering for such an intense style. Taste was best around 53 degrees ? started loosing its balance as it warmed more. Might have needed some more aging.

The bottle pours a clear deep garnet beverage with a medium sized light tan creamy head that lasted throughout sampling and it left beautiful lacing on the glass. The aroma was wonderfully complex with loads of sweet maltiness, notes of pepper, dried cherries, raisins and caramel. The body was full with smooth carbonation and a smooth creamy texture with a light alcohol warmth. The flavor started off sweet and continued sweet throughout the long finish.

This beer is similar to Rochefort Trappistes 8 in that it has a raisin like taste to it. The aroma is very similar to that beer also. This aroma is a little stronger. The taste is like wine, orange peel, raisins, plum, licorice and blackberrys mainly. The aftertaste is sweet which I like. Good beer.

Very good beer this is! This brew pours nice and dark with a nice rocky head. This brew is very very easy to drink. In fact, it’s so easy to drink that my fiance wanted a bottle of her own! (before she would only drink two other beers... New Belgium Frambozen and Michelob Ultra) This is a nice complex brew that really starts to shine as it warms up a bit.

this was pretty freakin sweet. very dark. got some weird fruits, like strawberries and melon and raisins, some peaches and pear juices joined in for the chorus. very sweet on the palate almost to the point that it makes the palate dry, but the flavor saves it at the last possible second. however, i really liked it,one of my fave unibroues.

Poured from a bomber. One of the first craft brews I’ve tasted and worth the $7.99. Dark brown in color, a bit of red in the light. Malts, spice, fruits, and very complex aroma. Flavor is equally as fruity but not as pronouced as in the nose. Subtle hints of ripe fruit, meshed in the intense malt and yeast. Mouthfeel is a bit too strong in the alchohol burn dept. One of only a few downers. Easily overlooked as the rest is so enjoyable.

Pours a darker brown, topped by a couple inches of tan foam. Decent head retention, good lacing. Malty aroma of plum, fig, maple, and brown sugar. Toffee, brown sugar, and a little chocolate flavors up front. Not overly sweet, in fact, very good balance. Some tart stone fruit in the finish, almost dry at the end and into the aftertaste - with just a bit of bitter chocolate along for the ride. Medium body, moderate carbonation, and very drinkable.

Dark brown hue, with a light foamy head, dry fruits of raisins, figs, prunes , dates with a malted chocolate note and sweet maltiness aroma. The palate is sweet and fruity of dark fruits, raisins, figs, prunes , dates with a spicy touch of curaçao, through a malty flavor of chocolate finishing in a good acidity.
