I will have to re-rate this after doing a side by side tasting of this and Maudite to be sure. MaxPower (961), St. Louis, Missouri, USA

The appearance in the glass is gorgeous, deep dark and rich, minimal head with very small bubbles. Flavor is a touch too fruity for me. Overall, a very good effort. The ABV is hidden well. Great beer. RobBestwick (555), Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 4, 2007 750ml bottle. Cherry/blackberry like aroma. Porter like appearance - dark with an off white head. Sweet, syrupy, malty with some complex fruity flavours like cherries and blackberries. The texture is quite similar to port . The finish is long sweet and malty. Very good indeed. sethdude (603), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 16, 2004 I decided I’d better give this a go before Sleeman ruins everything. Pours a dark, cloudy red color, with a toasted marshmallow head floating on top. Aroma is largely of cider, some red wine, and a hint of spice. Flavor is very similar to a port wine, which is good because I like port. Begins with a dark fruit taste, a bit of alchohol, and finishes astringent and warm. A very nice, dry strong. I’m glad I got my hands on this when I did. lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA

Pours a deep opaque brown with a frothy tan head. Smells fruity, mostly of plum and other dark fruit. Vanilla and molasses. Sweet spice, clove.
Taste is quite malty and yeasty. Lightly tart apple and plum. Vanilla, spicy like pepper and coriander. Lightly bitter in the finish. Mouth is rich and lightly sticky. Good stuff, I can never do the Unibroue beers justice with my words. mkgrenwel (420), Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 17, 2006 First impression is vinous/winey/acidic/tart. Roasted malt is apparent, but dryness persists. Large range of fruit flavors including apple, plum, cherry, apricot. Alcohol presence, but not overbearing. Shows up more as it warms. One flaw is the high level of sharp carbonation. This reminds me of a much better version of Chimay Blue. I wouldn’t call this a great beer, but it is very very good.
