Very complex rigth from the start with a sweet aroma of fruit (maybe cherries) and caramel. Pours a deep red with tan head and A LOT of carbonation bubbles. Taste was somewhat hidden behind the carbonation bubbles, but taste of malts, fruit, and some spices comes through. Finishes very easy with a bit of a alcohol warming just like a port. Very interesting, gets lots of points for complexity, but loses on the carbonation.

It’s very rich, and it really does have a flavor of port wine. I’m not sure how they accomplished this, but it really doesn’t have the normal malt and hop flavors that most beers are based on. It reminds me more of a cocktail of red wine, cherry juice, and liquor. Interesting - but not something I would drink on a regular basis. gracefullypunk (350), Washington, USA

Taste of sugars and red fruits fades quickly, but the tart smell of the same is quite nice. johngiolas (4), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 27, 2009 Pours dark like a porter. Small head dissipates nearly immediately. Smells of caramel, raisons, bananas and yeast. Mouth slightly effervescent. Taste: fruit and yeast, bananas and spice, finishes first fruity and then with sharp licorice. Very complex and rewarding. Alcohol not noticeable at all. Excellent Belgian. kubilai (46), , Quebec, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 27, 2009 Dark brown with purple ashes. Small foamy head that doesn’t last. Spicy aroma, with smells of plums, roast and cinnamon. Sweet palate that add to the "douceur" of the taste that is like velour on the tongue. Finish is very charming, when the berries side comes as a final scene. hawthorne00 (147), Australia

Beige head fades them returns a bit as it settles to be a nice one cm coat. Superb lacing. Some floating bits. Smells of port and lemon, with some earthiness, spice, berries, licorice and soy sauce. Fruity, yeasty and vintage port. No more alcohol than necessary. Finish is still a bit fruity, but is dry and slightly sour. rosenbergh (979), Helsinki, Finland

Spicy dark fruits, hints of plums, dates, and some light fig. Etoh latent fruit warming with cinnamon sticks and Belgian style esters. Dough y creamy with a hint of mint and a Trappist like tartness. Lush fruit skins nectar like plum y notes and a tamed carbonation prickle. Creamy velvet palate with fruit that rolls across the tongue. Mineral like sedimentation suspended with yeast leading to a dough y raisin sweetness. Modest subdued warming with a drying vinous palatable finish. A truly phenomenal Belgian style ale.
