WOW.. Why so much carbonation? This beer exploded when it hit the glass, a full out mound of khaki colored head. The aroma is light.. with hints of coco, coffee, and slightly lactic. The flavor has far more character… charred malts, chocolate, and cold coffee.. there is a nice bittering hoppy bite in the finish. The body is almost water thin and the Elmer must have been a bad child.. because the beer seems pretty beat up! I would say that the labeling is this beers best attribute! | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 21, 2004 Deep red-brown body, thin/medium light tan head. Chocolatey aroma with a touch of coffee; pretty sweet-smelling. The flavor was sort of a cross between a porter and a brown ale, with plenty of sweetened chocolate, brown sugar, and nuts. Not as roasty as most porters, focusing instead on the sweet component. steve23mj (273), Essexville, Michigan, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 16, 2004 Bottle pours dark brown with black cherry highlights, small off-white fizzly head that quickly settles, with slick lacing. Cocoa, light biscuits, and roasted malts on the nose. Roasted malts & coffee beans up front but nothing to follow it up. Medium body and medium mouthfeel. Finishes fairly light with only a mild hop bitterness and toasted malts. Not bad, but this one was pretty uneventful. Thanks goes out to atpayne for the trade!

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 21, 2004 Brown and clear. There is not much of an aroma, but what is noticable is a roasted malt. The malt is also available in the flavor, which is a little more impressive than the aroma, but not enough to completely rescue this rating. barenada (211), Georgetown, Indiana, USA

The flavor was quite nice with roasted malt and a mild chocolate. A dry finish that made me want to take another drink right away. aracauna (2425), Georgia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 13, 2004 Pours basically black with brown at the edges. The head is a light tan and forms easily and fades into a thin creamy layer. Thin flavor. There’s not a lot of chocolate, but it’s there. The aroma is actually a bit thin and a little metallic. The flavor consists mostly of a bit of char mixed with some cocoa. Not the most exciting of porters. igneous1 (1374), Davenport, Iowa, USA
