Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, and coffee. Taste of roasted malt, coffe, and slight caramel on a fairly light body. A little weak IMO for a porter. patrick767 (2033), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Apr 1, 2007 bottle - Pours very dark brown with a small head. The dark roast malt and chocolate aroma is pretty light. The roast flavor is also light, surprisingly so in my opinion. The body is on the thin side and while it’s not a bad quaff, there are far better porters available. I can’t agree with the World Beer Cup on this one. BeerBelcher (943), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jan 11, 2007 I had this on-tap at the brewery because I saw on the wall it medaled at the World Beer Cup, and I felt that while it was good, it was a bit over-sold by the WBC win.
Color was good; an opaque black with two fingers of tan head. The head looked a bit industrial; identically sized bubbles of a medium size.
Aroma was of chocolate malt.
Flavor and mouthfeel were a bit confusing. Flavor was pretty good; coffee-ish and pleasant. However, the flavor seemed to be sort of hiding behind a rather watery mouthfeel which made me lukewarm on this beer.
By no means is this a bad brew, but I’d recommend other Upland beers, or a Great Lakes Edmund Fitzergerald Porter. jimhilt (1683), Bow, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 9, 2006 Pours a five finger light brown head that fades quickly to thin layer leaving some lace. Deep mahogany, almost black color. Light carbonation and light-medium bodied. Chocolate nose. Starts with a roasted chocolate flavor more of a bakers chocolate at finish. 12 oz bottle part of mixed 6-pak for $7.99 from Friar Tuck’s Peoria, Il. TheBeerGod (3157), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 28, 2006 GABF 2006. I’m going to assume this is the same beer called "Upland Porter" at the festival. Dark brown with ruby around the edges. Nose is roasty, cocoa, and dark choco notes. Taste is more roasted malts, cocoa, and choco-coffee bitterness. Body is medium with a dense carbonation feel. Ends with more roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate. Pretty standard porter and very drinkable!
