Commercial Description:
Chocolate Stout: A very dark, robust beer. Chocolate, pale, and roasted malts, rolled oats and spicy hops were used to brew this beer, promoting a coffee-like flavor with hint s of dark bitter chocolate. Organic chocolate was added in conditioning to create a complex chocolate finish.

Upland Chocolate Stout is an interesting sweet stout. The brew is a deep dark color with a medium, but quickly dissolving head. The aroma is of chocolate and coffee and the taste is not very inventive.

Very nice chocolate stout! Nicely avoids going overboard, concentrates on the body of the beer, with good results. Dark and thick, but not syrupy. Full bodied and lots of malt. Hints of oatmeal and hops, with a clean coffee aftertaste. Nice and full of flavors. Not "chocolate" so much as some other chocolate beers, but one that balances itself out nicely. Very tasty.

Picked up a six-pack in Bloomington, IN. This poured with a dark rich color and a very large tightly formed head (out of the bottle!). Aroma was a smooth roastedness with hints of chocolate. The flavor was very smooth and very balanced. You see a lot over indulgence with Chocolate Stouts, not here, there was minimal acidity. This is the most drinkable c-stout I’ve ever had! I feel the version I had is new for 2008 (Jan ’08 bottle). It appears they’ve made considerable progress since last year.

Bottle: Poured a deep black color stout with a super large foamy head with great retention. Aroma of black chocolate with some subtle coffee notes is very interesting. Taste is a super well balance mix between some dark cacao notes with some coffee but without intense dryness at the end. Body is quite full with some great carbonation and a perfect creamy texture. Definitely way better then I would have expected and now makes me want to explore other beer from this brewery including the fruit lambic.

Bottle courtesy of lewis13. Pours a very deep ruby, looks like dark brown, with an average size lasting fluffy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, some mild sourness, chocolate and light hops. Flavour of lightly roasted malt, some sourness again and chocolate. Very quick dry finish. Average bodied. Just O.K., it’s average at best.

Bottle. Nearly black colour with a little head. Nice sweet aroma of smooth chocolate and roastedness. Awful flavour of sourness and acidity. Great aroma but awful taste.
