Vinous aroma with some roasted malt. Light-bodied, roasted malt accents - some underlying acidity. No real bitterness. I think there’s a hint of infection here. 310507 Ungstrup (15259), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 4, 2007 Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor is slightly acidic is it from the roasted malt? combined with light notes of chocolate, leading to a dry bitter end, where the bitterness primarily is from the hard roasted malt. madsberg (4966), Søborg, Denmark
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jun 2, 2007 bottled. Dark reddish brown coloured. Fluffy light brown head. Sweetness, light roast and some chocolate notes in the aroma. Flavour is a bit coffeish, light roasted and has cocoa notes. Light fruity. Is a bit thin bodied. Ends on a light grapish cocoa note. Dry and light sour. This might have a light infection. JCB (1771), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 1, 2007 12oz bottle from EithCubes - thanks! Not quite as dark as some stouts, nor as thick. This one’s got an aroma of dark coffee and chocolate. But the flavor is much closer to dark fruits, particularly so as it warms. A bit dry, and a tad too thin. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 9, 2007 12 oz bottle. Pours a very dark ruby with thin beige head. The aroma is cold coffee, oatmeal, wild berries, and cardboard. The flavor is cocoa, berries, and coffee at first, then carbonic acid, light caramel, and some wood. The finish is earthy with barely noticeable chocolate. jcr (1165), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 12, 2007 Draft. Nice balance between sweetness and a hop finish. Dark brown, approaching black, pour with comfortable, but receding, tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and caramel wtih a touch of smoke and a hint of dark chocolate. Though it’s called a chocolate stout, the chocolate does not dominate near as much as the roast and hops. The flavor starts sweet and smoky and finishes bitter and dry. Medium body and a watery texture. Moderate carbonation. Optigon (562), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Feb 14, 2007 Pours a dark brown with a dark, creamy head. Aroma of chocolate and malt. Flavor has a malty, yeasty quality. There was a bit of a sour twinge, akin to Guinness. Here and there, the upfront flavor reminded me of plastic... strange. Aftertaste strongly of chocolate. A pretty complex beer, not crazy over it, but not really bad. Adventurous brew. EithCubes (2148), Indiana, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 4, 2007 Draught. Pitch black body with a beautiful, creamy, and perfectly level tan head. Aroma yeasty with very light hops and little else. Body is too light, but nice slight coffee and roast notes, under the richly smooth chocolate and light lactose notes. Aftertaste is smooth and chocolatey. Touch of oaten silkiness. Overall, needs some work.
