Commercial Description:
The Upland Dragonfly IPA is a malty and hoppy brew. Note the clean malty fullness on the front of the palate with fruity citrus overtones, attributable to our special hops. Dry hopping creates a floral aroma, and our use of bittering hops lends a strong bitter taste in the back of the tongue and throat.

Bottle thanks to TearsforBears! Slightly hazy amber pour with a fluffy white head and spotty lace. Grainy aroma. Mild pine hop flavor. The finish dominated by a grainy flavor.

Clear amber with a frothy head. Mild hoppy pine and malty sweetbread aroma. Medium body and smooth. Rich, caramelly sweet flavors with pine sap hops. Nice ipa.

12oz bottle. Pours hazy amber with a big, pillowy, offwhite head, good retention and good lace. Smells yeasty citrusy and malty with some slight hops in the background. Different. Tastes malty and yeastywith some nice citrusy hops as an afterthought. Almost spicy, like coriander or the like. Medium body, crisp carbonation.

On tap at Nick’s in Bloomington. Fairly standard flowery type hops, with pale and caramel malt as a well in the aroma. Deep copper in color, with a decent steady pillow-like head and lacing, it was served in a jelly-container glass at the bar, which was pretty cool. This was a full tasting and feeling ipa with a nice strong flowery bitter with a semi-off balance with a nutty mild fruit sweetness. The finish and aftertaste left a little something to be desired, but overall a pretty likable beer.

On draught at the brewpub in Bloomington, Indiana. Pours a clear copper amber brew with a thick off-white head that has some nice retention and excellent lacing. Aroma of light caramel malt, both citrus and piney hops, a touch of spice and some iced tea. Taste is medium bodied, a little gritty with flavors of citrus zest, some grapefruit and caramel malt, Finish is not as bitter as most other IPA but more of an American Pale Ale style beers.

Draft at brewpub. Poured copper in color with a sticky white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of piney and light citrus hops with a sweet malty base. Tastes of citrus, pine, light spice, caramel sweetness. Nice sticky mouth feel and nicely balanced.

Objectively speaking: Malt oriented, very pleasant ale with a judicious spicy hop finish.
I like: Not your standard in your face IPA, not all that bitter, but enough bite to avoid exaggerated sweetness. Very pleasant biscuity malt flavours, focused and impressively well-extracted. Fair leafy, flowery, spicy bitterness. The hops really act as a complement rather than the focus, but do it with grace. Excellent balance and a fine food pairing companion. Large and healthy white lacy head.
I dislike: Not a whole lot of Oomph, but sometimes, that’s just what you wish for.
