hazy amber, thin beige head, stringy lace, sweet floral hop aroma with sweet carmel and a touch of butterscotch, nice robust hop flavor on a balancing sweet carmel malt base that blends into some sweet butterscotch character, long pleasant bitter finish, a fine drinking IPA, mostly an American style IA with a touch of the buttery English character like from a Ringwood brewery (which works for me)

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 23, 2005 Clear amber body, off-white head, nice lacing. Aroma is medium sweet, grapefruit, some caramel, floral, light orange. Taste is medium sweet, grapefruit/floral/orange, some chocolate. Creamy medium body. Not an overly bitter IPA, just a well-balanced beer. Of course, when so many people expect a strong bitterness in their IPA, it really is no surprise the range of ratings for this one. bu11zeye (5621), Frisco, Texas, USA

Very lightly bitter. Lacking balance. jcwattsrugger (5572), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

Malt oriented, very pleasant ale with a judicious spicy hop finish.
I like:
Not your standard in your face IPA, not all that bitter, but enough bite to avoid exaggerated sweetness. Very pleasant biscuity malt flavours, focused and impressively well-extracted. Fair leafy, flowery, spicy bitterness. The hops really act as a complement rather than the focus, but do it with grace. Excellent balance and a fine food pairing companion. Large and healthy white lacy head.
I dislike:
Not a whole lot of Oomph, but sometimes, that’s just what you wish for.

Aroma has nice mild piney hop presence with some toasty caramel malt and light hint of tart fruit. Body starts with a lightly sweet caramel maltiness with some toasted notes and well-balanced with some citrusy hops. Very drinkable, but could use a more assertive hoppy presence. Still, a pretty decent IPA. Cletus (5058), Connecticut, USA
