17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 28, 2009 Bottle at First CST sample #5. Pours a clear syrupy light golden with basically no head. Smells like an air-freshener, glade plug-in-esque, sweet vanilla, urinal cake, yogurt. Tastes like potpourri, thai coconut milk, lime yogurt, lightly acidic but quite sour, soapy finish. Body is watery and vague. Not for me. KimJohansen (6676), Copenhagen V, Denmark Oct 21, 2009 Updated: Oct 22, 2009[Thanks a million Jan!] Clear golden with a tiny white short lasting head. Sour aroma with brett, lacto, barnyard, wood and kiwi hints. Flavour was sour and somewhat sweet and the kiwi’s gave it a sweet edge though the barnyard, brett, lacto and wood kicked in as expected towards the end. Finished nicely sour. Nice balance and the kiwi gave it a nice fruityness. Lovely.
Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 21, 2009 Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Clear golden with no head. Lots of acetone and fruit. A little thin-bodied, low in carbonation. Tart acetic acid with a faint kiwi note. Fresh but not all that powerful.
Second pour: cloudy opaque golden with some floaties and absolutely no head. The acetone is a little heavier but otherwise the beer doesn’t change all that much. Still a discreet - if rather tart - Fruit Lambic. 211009 MiP (8793), Sønderborg, Denmark Oct 21, 2009 Bottle. Good sweet aroma, a bit fruity with some mild leather, a bit of oak smell. Viney grape notes as well. Hazy orange colour. Almost no head. The flavour starts off citric with a little vanilla. The initial sourness is mild, but when it is swallowed, it gets a bit rougher. Ungstrup (14757), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 21, 2009 Bottled. An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of acetone, acid, and fruits. The flavor is sweet and acidic with notes of fruits, acetone, lacto, and some wood, leading to a tart acidic finish. Not as crazy as I’d thought, bu tnice. Huge thanks to fonefan for sharing this. Davinci (295), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 20, 2009 from the First Annual Chicago Sour Tasting, thanks to kan.
Nearly opaque golden pour, with no head, some floaters. Aroma is very unusual, floral, pot po ri, soap, some weird oakiness. Flavor is very unusual. Coconut, lime, pineapple, woodiness is building as the glass warms. Sourness is very subdued, which is nice. Overall very smooth with a nice lingering tartness. Not at all what I was expecting, but rather enjoyable.
TURDFERGUSON (1594), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Sep 9, 2009 Bottle shared by oscf. DIdn’t ever expect to see this one, but after tasting all of the other uplands, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to. Pours a cloudy golden with a small whiye head. Nose is tart, fruity (can’t discern kiwis), and acetic acid. Okay. JCB (1716), Durham, North Carolina, USA Sep 4, 2009 OSCF brings the rarity, baby! Somebody said p00tz’s Mom’s feet, which is totally uncalled for. It’s actually got some character that’s quite pleasant, with dry yeast and oak coming through nicely in the nose. Like the other Uplands, there’s not much carbonation to speak of. And there’s fairly little kiwi character as well, with mostly just acetic stuff coming through. Moderately enjoyable.
