tcruicks (282), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jul 22, 2006 Smells like raspberries most of all! A fairly strong aroma, which was nice. The flavor is malty and sweet, sugary, with a good deal of raspberry but not too overwhelming. Some bitterness. Some hops which mostly come out at the end of the sip. One of the better fruit beers I’ve had recently. pnista (888), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jul 22, 2006 On tap at Uplands. Pours a reddish brown with a light, though substantial head. The nose is sweet with light malt, but also syrupy sweet with raspberries. A slight hint of floral hops, but the predominant bitterness seems to come from the raspberry. The mouthfeel is smooth with perhaps a bit too much CO2, though nothing gregious, and certainly not watery. Smooth well rounded maltiness gives this fruit beer some backbone, something generally missing from the style. Remarkably similar to their IPA, though the floral hops are much less forward, and obviously, there’s raspberry. There’s also a syrupy sort of sweetness that accompanies the near lactic bitterness of the raspberries. A nice brew for a fruit beer, which is generally a style I dislike.
