Commercial Description:
In the spring of 2006, I brewed 300 gallons of top-fermented beer using wild yeast to create a Belgian-style Lambic. We conditioned the beer in oak casks and then initiated a secondary fermentation in the casks using whole fruit from Huber’s Orchard in Starlight, Indiana. You should experience a tart, almost sour taste balanced by the aromatic and richly flavorful addition of whole raspberries - perfect to share with friends, and a platter of good cheese and fresh fruit. - Caleb Staton, Head Brewer

Bottle:   Hazy straw, minor reddish hues, moderate frothy off-white head, decent lacing.   Very musty on the nose.   Seems Bretty.   Tart and dry on the tongue.   The Raspberry is subtle.   Oddly enough the bottle says it is made with Strawberries.   Thankfully not as dry or tart as I was expecting.   The fruit aspect isnt as strong as I would have hoped.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Dry finish.   Enjoyable.

Murky golden color out of the big bottle with a very small white head. Traditional funky barnyard nose with some raspberry fruit and leather. This is why I don’t like lambics. Pinching sourness, mouldy hay, and old stale raspberries flavors. I’m getting better at sour beers, but I’m still not a fan.

Courtesy of hopscotch. Pours a deep amber pinkish color, with a tiny white head. Smells of tart fruitiness, definitely a little raspberry and strawberry in there, and hints of acidity and sourness. The flavor is sour sweet. Lots of raspberry, strawberry, and grape as well. Finally some decent carbonation with these Upland lambics. First one Ive tried that was carbonated sufficiently. Made it much more enjoyable than the previous 2 Ive tried.

Bottle … Hazy amber ale with orange highlights and a small, quickly dissipating head. The aroma is both funky and fruity, offering a boatload of raspberry goodness. Medium to full-bodied with tingly carbonation. The flavor is fruity and very tart with only mild raspberry sweetness. Tart, medium-dry finish. Best Upland Lambic I’ve tried thus far.

Pours a dull burnt orange with not head to speak of. The nose is of mild stinky cheese, sticky nonspecific fruit, and general lambic funk. The flavor is tart and fruity, but I don’t taste raspberry at all. Medium body with a balanced finish. Seems like this is missing some...most of the effervescent bubbles that I think of in lambics.

The carbonated body and pinkish hue made this an ideal candidate for a relaxing evening. If only it had not shown signs of infection I would have given it a higher score. As it is this shows plenty of promise - if you can get a bottle that does not have problems then enjoy a well balanced American take on a classic Belgian style.

Aroma / Appearance - Carbonated with a flat head as you would except the nose was trat and dry. If this was sour fresh it has only gotten stronger over the last year or so.

Flavor / Palate - Flat but tart the mouthfeel has a potent punch. My issue is that it tastes more like a tart sour brown than a raspberry lambic. Perhaps my bottles was off; I’d love to give this a second chance because all the other ones have been excellent. Somewhere between a Lindeman and a Cantillon in terms of sourness I can see why Upland has built up a following for these special releases.

My bottle thanks to Jon. I do not know horizontally if better than strawberry but still decent drinker. Sour aroma. Aggressive carbonation, but mouthfeel overall still good. Sour in taste, some raspberry and other berries there including strawberry.

750 ml bottle - thanks riverside!! pours cloudy light red with no head; huge raspberry nose, kind of like the oud beersel framboise; fuzzy, slightly tart finish; perfectly fine and enjoyable, just not that interesting
