| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Aug 18, 2003 This had potential. It's one of those dark beers that's really better cold, as it doesn't give off much of a smell and has few hidden flavours to begin with. Malty, almost like a cream stout at first but doesn't quite follow through. Okay, but why can't we just make 'em like the freaking Brits? OlJuntan64 (1267), Perth, Australia
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Aug 5, 2003 Pours a glorious red-brown clear with large lasting fluffy light tan head. Mild kinda processed cheesey yeasty and fainter malt and hops aroma. Medium thin body. Medium bitter and light roasted caramel malt flavours. Softer middle and weak bitter finish. Starts good but finish is ordinary to poor. jerc (3936), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Aroma of muted malt, and a touch of cardboard implies the bottle might not be at its freshest. Sweet caramel and malt with a dry tang leading a bitter lingering aftertaste. Average palate. Mild muted chocolate notes. Have had better samples of this. 5/3/6/3/11

Re-rate Nov 2003. More malty and flavorful than I remembered.

Original Rating Nice dark beer. I have used it to make beer burgers, and it matched well with the venison I had at a restaurant. Similar to that of Muskoka. Not sure which I prefer. 5/4/5/3/13 canashian (11), Canada

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jun 18, 2003 Like the Lager, this beer appears to have been dumbed down considerably from the brew I remember from back in the days when Upper Canada was still based in their original Toronto brewery. It still looks pretty nice in the glass, and has a bit of nuttiness in the flavour which is pleasant. But it's generally pretty boring. IPFreely (1470), Lewiston, New York, USA
