Chemical taste to it. I couldn't force myself to finish it (went around the corner to Smokeless Joe's--that helped) GregClow (2515), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

UC Lager was one of my gateway beers to the world of microbrews, and back when they were a small Toronto brewery, this was a decent, tasty lager. But like most of the UC line, Sleeman has sucked the uniqueness and quality out of this beer, leaving it a shell of it's former self. It's a touch better than other macro-wannabes like Brick Lager and Cool, but that's not saying much. Bland, bland, bland. gjamieson (75), Canton, Georgia, USA
| 1.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 2/10 | 2/5 | 3/20 | Mar 30, 2003 Apparently this is not the same Upper Canada Lager that Sleeman's is selling in the US as a knockoff of Labatt Blue. It's going for $5.99 for a 12-pack, and it tastes like crap. I've had Upper Canada beer in Canada in the past, and it was good, so I have a feeling that this Upper Canada Lager in the blue case is not the same stuff. Tasted nasty, left me with a bad headache. Made me long for an American macroswill. hennes (932), Fountain, Michigan, USA

I haven't had a new beer in eons - too much work and not enough access here abouts. So this was an interesting "find" at the local grocery among the assorted cans of American massbrew. Is it desperation that leads to my acceptence of this brew? Maybe. What my straining taste buds did find was an unclean malt sensation that eventually toned down toward actual, live hop action. Some weekend I'm going to head south and blow way too much money cleaning out a real liquor store. Either that ot raid pyschprof's cellar. The ratings from that episode are likely to be pyschedelic ravings. Stay tuned. Michiganmike (17), Saint Clair Shores, Michigan, USA

Pours out to a a darker-than-usual gold with a slight head. Taste is quite malty for a beer of this style and is somewhat sweet. Crit (2409), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada

After a moment or two warm up time and some food (I was in a terrible mood as I hadn’t eaten), I did indeed find this to be rather crisply hopped. Good.
