A golden yellow greets the eye. The aroma is sweet and inviting. Reminds one of clovers. The taste is succulant with a snap of dryness a la fin. Its a full dry beer that satisfies. Some elements are missing to make it 'complete' yet its almost there. An intellect's beer, I'd say. One to be had in the midst of a chess game or something of that nature with a small gathering of acquaintances.

I bought this rebellion in a sixpack sampler from the brewers outlet store.... 6 separate offerings in the pack.....a nice way to introduce drinkers to the company's varirty of brews. The rebellion lager is a medium heavy lager made with spring (naturally soft) water and I think this gives it a unique character.(only Neustadt springs beer seems to share this characteristic) The water actually has a smoothing effect on a 6%+ AVB beer. Although it's 6% it is a mellow and soothing brew. Pours a medium clear gold with a smallish white head that goes quickly to a "lace ring". Aromas of sweet barley malt, and slight yeasts spice. Starts out sharp then fills the palate with a malt gusto then finishes rather dry with delicate hints of bread- sweetness mixed with faint yeasty nut-like tastes. All in all a good brew

The last time I had this beer it was terrible, so I thought I'd give it another chance.. This one poured amazingly clear with a light copper body and a bright white head. Aromas consisted of caramel malts and citrus with floral notes. Initial sip was somewhat flat. Moderatly bitter start to a flat finish with perfumey flavours on the palate to finish. This one wasn't much better than the last time I had it...I give up!

I must side with Gooner on this one. Could have been a bad bottle, but it was eerily reminiscient of Buckley's. Very bitter, and very metallic. I had to make it a shandy with Canada Dry to avoid wasting my money and dumping it.

This is the highest rated beer in its category? It's not bad but ... deep honey colour with short-lived dirty-snow head, smells very much like white wine. It's only marginally stronger than most beer but has problems hiding it. Somewhat harsh and oily, a bit sweet. It is reminiscent of some eastern European brews, which tend to suck compared to Belgians.

austinpowers, in his review of this beer said "The Canadians have never rebelled against anyone in their entire history, as far as I know", but the beer is named after an historic event. The label used to have a drawing by late Canadian artist C.W. Jeffreys showing the "March Down Yonge Street" (Toronto) in 1837 by followers of political reformer William Lyon McKenzie. Where Maple Leaf Gardens now stands in Toronto, his rag tag group of farmers ran into the local militia. Both sides fired, and even though the militia was ready to run away, the rebels hightailed it first. They were tracked down to a local tavern a few miles up the road (at Yonge and Eglinton now) where they were finally dispersed by an emboldened militia. McKenzie was trying to establish a more American-style government in Upper Canada (Ontario) at the time. This event has come to be known as the Upper Canada Rebellion. Hence the name for the beer. Very tasty, I might add.

A very good beer. Holds up well in the glass, deep colour, not too crisp but full of malty richness. I am not a big lager fan, but this one makes its mark.
