heemer77 (4294), Savannah, Missouri, USA Oct 7, 2008 usually, I am not a fan of this style, but enjoyed this version. The body was dark copper with a khaki colored head. The aroma was caramel with some peat and smoke. The taste was sweet peaches along with bread crust. There was also a little bit of earth in the finish. Tmoney99 (4656), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Sep 19, 2008 Draft sample at Upstream Old Market. Poured hazy copper color with an average fizzy white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate toasted malt aroma. Medium body. Medium toasted balanced flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met. Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Jun 9, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy bourbon brown with an off-white head that leaves patchy lace upon the glass. The nose is of peaty malt with a light fruitiness behind. On the light side of medium-bodied, the mouthfeel is silky smooth with a lightly dry finish. Sweet, peaty malt, leather and light toffee combine to create a pretty decent brew. Scotch ales are a hit-or-miss style for me, but this is one of the better "regular" brews in Upstream’s stable. Oxymoron (104), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Apr 4, 2008 Pours a rich dark amber color with some haze and limited visibility. Seems slightly darker then normal Scottish ales. The head retention, dressed in a slightly off white color, was decent but didn’t stick around for the end. The lace was very limited from the beginning. There wasn’t much of a smell. Limited malt and roasted characteristics. Also I caught was walnut aroma, but very light. The taste was much better. A stronger good base malt and smooth in texture. The overall taste of more English traditional malts with a roasted backings. Add a touch of breadiness as well. Some nut flavors are slight in the background. There also is a nice smokiness that really rounds out the beer. The hops are light but support the malt and have a more earthiness feeling to them. The beer seems more per a English Ale then Scottish, but the good smokiness and slight breadiness I have to think more Scotland then GB. Overall a good beer with mid to full body. A good smooth taste and would recommend. goldtwins (4079), Nesconset, New York, USA Feb 25, 2008 Growler @ Madness. Poured a hazy orange copper color with an off-white head.
