bleeng (587), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA Jan 29, 2009 From the bottle at the bar. They said this was a lager!! Oak aged. Dark brown foamy white head. Nose of chocolate, malts, and sweetness. Taste of light malts, lighter body, chocolately, alcohol is not very evident, low carbonation. Smooth drinking and well done-could have used a bit more body though. shp555 (1678), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 24, 2008 Pours a brown color with a tan head. Aroma is malty, caramel, brett, oak, and some fruit. Flavor is malt, toasty, oak, vanilla, roast, and and alcoholic finish. nickspies (76), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Dec 18, 2007 Chocolate, alcohol, sweet, toasted and a slight allspice aroma. jefcon (997), Arlington, Virginia, USA Dec 25, 2006 Sweetening aromas of brown sugar, nutmeg and some yeast. Dark and reddish in the glass. Tart palate does not hide its alcohol very well. In addition to being big, however, there is a significant spice component. A lot going on here independent of beer ingredients. Not sure why or how they call this a stout, far too thin, hoppy/spicy, and lightweight for the style. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jan 23, 2006 Sampled from a growler courtesy of BobSandage: Pours a transparent dark amber brown with a light-tan head. Aroma of sweet earthy dark malt and lots of musk, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Body starts with a sweet dark maltiness and lots of earthy nutmeg and ginger spice balance. Reminds me a lot of Anchor Our Special Ale. I don’t know if I’d call this a stout though. goldtwins (4079), Nesconset, New York, USA Jan 16, 2006 Growler @ Kps cellar: Poured a medium dark brown with a thin off-white head. In the aroma spice was the first thing I picked up. Followed by sweet lightly roasted malt. Flavor of spice, somewhat sprucey. Roasted malt. Dry finish. I am guessing the spiciness and the name have something to do with each other. aracauna (2357), Georgia, USA Jan 8, 2006 Dark brown and fairly clear. Yeasty. A bit roasty. This is really more of a big porter or an imperial brown than a stout, but not a bad beer.
