The cask version was far superior with lots more hops character and my rating for it follows. The body was hazy dark copper with an off white head. The aroma was toffee along with some iced tea. The taste was bitter orange peels with some wood. This was solid with a smooth body. Braudog (3770), Dayton, Ohio, USA

Decent hop character in this one, with a sweetart candy tinge at the finish. On cask, it highlights the citric character and brings out a more smooth body. This was the hands-down favorite "local beer" for me while I lived in Omaha. Guess in the end, it’s just an average or slightly above-average offering, but I could drink gallons of it, too. heykevin (1269), Iowa City, Iowa, USA

Pour is slightly hazed orange copper with a small off white head. Aroma of mineral grains, toasted with some earthy British hops. Taste mirrors the nose quite closely, featuring mainly on the toasted grain. The hops give a slightly bitter crispness that leads to a quick finish. Palate is clean, and quite drinkable. This went really well with the excellent Pork Schnitzel. BBB63 (4267), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 14, 2003 Medium amber hue with very good head and lace. The aroma is very fruity (lemon, apple, grapefruit) with additional hints of buttery biscuit, aromatic hops, and leather yeast esters. The taste is a touch piney and grapefruity. A solid malt bakcground supports the acidic and bitter finish. Hints of sweet wood appears every once in a while. Lively and crsip mouthfeel. Good ESB, not fully tradional but not west coast style either, quaffable. tjthresh (1778), Greenfield, Indiana, USA

Dark amber with not a lot of aroma to speak of. I really kind of like the flavor. Its malty with a strong bitter finish. I enjoyed that. Its not really special at all, but I’d drink it regularly. RateandPillage (417), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 3, 2005 Nice amber brown color. Light in the hop department for an ESB, but probably Upstream’s efforts to appeal to more of the masses. Not a bad beer, but lacking in character. topherh (936), Kearney, Missouri, USA
