Sledge Jr (2708), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Jun 18, 2008 On tap at the 2008 Crescent Moon Extreme Beerfest. The minty aroma knocked my socks off. I didn’t see that coming. Pours golden with a medium white head. The middle flavor is intense malt. Has a great hop finish. There’s no early bitterness at all. I’d say that this is the best of this style that I’ve had. Very drinkable for a big beer. Interesting that I’ve not seen this in bottled form anywhere in the omaha area. heemer77 (3634), Savannah, Missouri, USA May 23, 2008 Bottled, thanks for sharing iowaherkeye. The body was dark hazy gold. The aroma was earthy with cake donuts and sweet pears. The taste was bitter bread crust and pear core. There was also a carrot note, that one is for you, Joey. jjpm74 (2878), Connecticut, USA Apr 14, 2008 Courtesy of iowaherkeye. Pours gold with a thin white head. Smells of hay, straw, strawberries, perfume, some tea, cherries, some earthy hints. Tastes of caramel, pepper, lots of sweetness battling the bitterness. I like less bitterness in my pilsners, but decent. General_Gao (2434), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Mar 18, 2008 Hand bottle from iowaherkeye. Thanks Joey. Poured a clear golden color. Head was white and reduced over 1-2 minutes. Some decent lace was left behind at the end. Peasant aroma of grapefruit, noble hops, subdued mango, and honey-touched cereal grain. Malty, medium bodied, and sweet with moderate hop bitterness that peaked at the end (5-ish out of 10). There was some grapefruit flavor, but not as much as I had been led to expect from my nose. Pine resin, biscuity malt, and alcohol flavors also emerged. Good stuff. iowaherkeye (1375), rocking podunk Marengo!, Iowa, USA Mar 18, 2008 On tap at the brewpub 02/17/08. This beer is actually listed as 7.5% ABV, but I talked to one of the employees and told me that the yeast took off and the ABV is actually 9%. Clear golden amber with a one finger white head, fair retention in a footed pils glass. Strong aroma of Saaz hops along with some faint sulphur notes (in a good way), light floral hops as well with a biscuity malt backbone. There is also a hint of acetaldehyde. Big bitterness up front with some of that raw alcohol presence again, thought it doesn’t seem to be too detracting. Try as they may, the biscuity malts are no match for the onslaught of the hop bitterness, peaking at a 7 in the dry finish. Medium body with moderate carbonation. This turned out pretty well despite the aceta-blah blah blah.
