Poured a darker brown with red tints. Aroma is big malt, caramel, and brown sugar with a very mild alcohol note. Taste was also malty but not as big as a doppelbock could be. Notes of cooked brown sugar and mild alcohol. Small amount of hops at the end. Great for this time of year in Germany. Enjoyable but not the best.

(bottle) pours a ruby-copper colour with a small but stable off-white head. aroma of herbal hops, caramel and roasted malts with a hint of nuts and perhaps some light fruit. flavour is quite grainy, with a hint of roasted malts and honey, mellow but much too sweet. medium-bodied with smooth carbonation.

[bottle] Sort of powdery, sweet, grainy malt aroma with slight cardboard and dried fruit notes. Clear garnet-brown under a lasting, thin, tan, flanel blanket. Smooth bread crust and dried fruit flavour with apricot, raisin, and cashew accents. Sweet, grainy malt is nicely balanced by a medium bitterness. Medium to full body, moderate carbonation, slightly bitter nut finish.

Alcohol, plums, sherry, toasted malts and a touch of corn in the aroma. Clear deep brown body is topped by a low off white, fine bubbled head that recedes to a thin partial cover. Very sweet and almost syrupy flavour with bread and dried fruit flavours in the aftertaste. Some corn is also notable. Medium body with low to fair carbonation. Bottle sampled at Oakes’ Xmas tasting 2007.
