Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
Brewed under direction of Hildegard van Ostaden, formerly at Van Steenberge, now at Koningshoeven - La Trappe brewery.
With its rich foam, hoppy flavour and fine bitterness, Urthel Vlaemse Bock is a special ale with a high drinkability for lovers of the authentic Flemish brewing art. Vlaemse Bock as originally brewed for the winter, but is now available in 33 cl. (330 ml./ 11.2 FL.OZ.), 75 cl. (750 ml./1 PT. 9.4 FL. OZ.) and kegs the whole year. You can only buy Urthel Vlaemse Bock in the United States. This heart-warming dubbel of 7.5% of alcohol, traditionally top fermented and bottle conditioned flamey dark ale has a tastefully rich, malty, slightly sweet flavour. Vlaemse Bock’s very fine distinctive bitterness makes you forget the long cold winter.

Mar. 2007 - Dark amber pour, little head or lacing. Weird butterscotch "off" flavor. Flavor was dark fruits but the odd butterscotchy off flavor was distracting and unpleasant.

A Mes rate: 33cl bottle from Quaffs, thanks to Reakt.
Semi hazy very dark brown with a pretty impressive beige head. Rich chocolate malt aroma with some dried fruit and a nice earthy character. More chocolate stuff in the flavour with a nice warmth from the alcohol. Burnt malt followed with some very slight hoppage that balances it out pretty nicely. Lingering tang at the sides of the palate gives it a slight vegetal note but not in a bad way. Not brimming with complexity but an enjoyable and intersting brew.

Dark red-amber beer with a creamy beige head. Neutral aroma. Nice flavours: caramel, coffee, burned malts and a hardly noticable sweetness at the end with some nice hopps as well.

bottle poured at 1/28 Houston Tasting. Pours a cloudy, copper-brown color with a tan head. Smell was of dark fruit. Taste was of a Belgian - plums, sweet raisins, a bit earthy. Mouthfeel had alcohol noticeable. This was not bad, but not complex enough.

Pours a rich dark brown colour. Aroma is quite peppery. Textures is silky and rich. Hints of caramel and liquourice come through in this very rich beer.

Orange/red mahogany with a nice, golden head. The aroma has sweetness, yeast, dark fruits, malt and caramel, and I find the same notes in the flavour. It has a nice body and balance, and the finish has a light and slightly dry bitterness.

Poured at the 1/28 Houston tasting. Dingy brown pour with good tan head and nice lacing. Rich vegetable nose...eggplant and celery...mixed with raisins. Flavor has a candied sweetness along with an odd corn and raisin flavor, almost like Raisin Bran. Rather thin and oily, with some heat.

750 ml bottle shared by Zinister, 5th bottle sampled at the 1/28 Houston tasting. Pour is brownish-orange with a one inch off-white head. Aroma of vegetables (celery, carrots) dark raisins, some candy sugar sweetness. Taste is raisin-molasses, some of the candy sweetness, which lingers a bit too long. Mouth coating, despite a fairly thin body. Interesting, but not extraordinary. Thanks for sharing Mike.
