The aroma has plenty of candy sugar, raisins and brown bread together with some fizzy fruit. The taste is more of the same although the bready malts are more subdued than the smell would lead you to expect. Nevertheless a decent tasting beer. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 5, 2007 Poured an amber with good head. Aroma was doughy and as butterscotch as eaglefan said. Flavor was doughy as well with the butterscotch and dark fruits. Not a favorite of mine eaglefan538 (2401), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 31, 2007 Poured an amber color, nice generous head, ok lacing. The aroma was butterscotch, light vinegar, malty dough. The flavor was dark fruits, light chocolate, some grass, doughy notes, butterscotch, not as much vinegar as the aroma (almost a flemish twist to the flavor profile). The mouthfeel was a little acidic, highly carbonated. SilkTork (4184), Rochester, Kent, England
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 29, 2007 330ml bottle from BeersOfEurope. A soft, creamy dark ale. Gentle and agreeable English hop bitterness growing into the finish. Carbonation quite tickly on the palate, leaving a lasting impression. Soft, not clearly defined bread and raisin flavoured malt. This doesn’t hold together well. Shame, as there are not enough female brewers these days, and I so want this to taste better than it does. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 26, 2007 Deep ruby, large rocky head with excellent lacing and phenominal retention. Aroma is fruity with caramel and light spices. Flavor brings, this a smooth sweetness and a medium body. Not a huge blast of flavor, but what is here is kickass. I was expecting much worse. bb (2930), Martinez, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 12, 2007 Bottle. Rich dark caramel color with a nice tan head. Rich toffee/malt aroma with earthy spice. caramel/toffee flavor with earth and spice. Lingering caramel with earth and spice. Yes, it’s the same thing throughout, but it’s not bad. Pours brown with an off white to beige head. Thick enjoyable caramel and chocolate flavors, but the remarkable thing is the long drying finish with interesting aromatics at the end. bhensonb (4371), Woodland, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 21, 2007 75 cl. labled Urthel Vlaemse Bock (from Ledger’s Liquors): Aromas of darkness, fruit underlaid by malt. Color varies with angle of light; some beautiful cherry can be seen. The beige head goes away, leaving a bit of lacing. Starts with a fruity cherry flavor, the sweetness is more from fruit than malt (so it seems). Light chocolate rises. The sweetness is not sticky. Post swallow the impression is one of astringic dryness. There is yeast, but it does not get in the way of the fruit and chocolate. This is neat, complex stuff. Each sip seems to rearrange the order of flavor appearance. Very entertaining.
