Commercial Description:
Urthel Samaranth 12 Quadrium Ale is a malty, full-bodied special Ale, brewed in a way that only Belgian Brewers can. Huge mouthfeel and layers and levels of flavor make Urthel Samaranth the perfect beer for the end of a meal or at the finish of a special day. And when you want something different, Urthel Samaranth 12 Quadrium Ale is with its fine bitterness, definitely something different... Try it! First brewed at Van Steenberge, now brewed at Koningshoeven - La Trappe brewery.

Appearance: Pours a semi-hazy amber body with a small, off-white head. Smell: Light, toasted maltiness with white grapes, a mold-smelling yeast character, and light sherry notes. Taste: Moderately sweet, with bready malts and a distinctive, yet peculiar mélange of fruits: white grapes, quinces, and pineapple. Some slight bitterness in the sharp finish. Mouthfeel: Straddles the fence between medium and full-bodied. Low carbonation. Slight alcohol warmth. Drinkability: I can’t properly explain it, but this bizarre beer saddens me.

11.2oz bottle, $4.09. God all mighty this beer sucks!. Aroma is not bad: of sweet malts and citrus hops. Looks great. Average sized white head that mostly diminished and left average lace. Alcohol content is great!. But the flavor? WTF!? Nasty, sweet berries, syrup, medicine, sweaty ass, and dead rat dominate the flavor(well, maybe not dead rat, that’s a little better. Also, please do not regard my reviews of Belgium beers since I despise them vehemently!!) Whose brewing this crap?!! I know I can hardly complain since most yanks drink Bud but WTF Belgium?!! Is this really your newest cult classic?! I actually couldn’t finish this beer!! I KNOW, ME!!!!! NOT FINISHING A BEER!!! Hell must’ve froze over! Great job guys, the first beer I can consciously remember not finishing. I hope you’re proud! And if that doesn’t just kill me, I’ve inadvertently chosen this beer as my 69th rating!! DAMN YOU!!!! You’re so not worthy!!

Aroma of mostly citrus with hops and little malt. Taste was extremely sweet. It consisted of citrus and raisins with a strong alcohol finish.

Pours amber in color with little head. Very strong alcohol taste along with a sweet malty flavor. Aroma consists of raisins, clove, caramel and very strong alcohol. A very strong beer and not for the light hearted.

Tap served in proper De Konongshoeven glass (grass on drawn on the glass?). Small, off-white, fizzy head (pattern of belgian?) Murky light brown body. Aromas of yeast, bubble gum, alcohol, maltiness, and some cloves. Flavor is sweet all the way. Solid brew but something in the finish that is a little off.

Draught in an Urthel snifter at the Brick Store. Pours a hazy bright orange with a massive white head. Aroma is wild and yeasty with hints of pineapple, grass, cloves, nutmeg. Carbonation is medium. The description on the menu claims this a quad, though a unique one. That is definitely stretching the imagination, I like the broader "Belgian Strong Ale" classification this site has given it. This is nice bright ale with tons of pineapple, cloves, nutmeg, some banana, doughy notes, and honey. I found the flavor to be tamer and less sour than the aroma. This is a great drink.

Mainly yeasty aroma, though not unpleasant. In the mouth again some yeast, a bit of (moderate) honey and chocolate, and above all a thick, smooth, creamy palate. Alcohol is well hidden. Full and enjoyable.
