Fruity aroma; mandarin orange and pear. The flavor is sweet with brown sugar, toffee and honey. Hot and bitter with alcohol; bitter with hops. Just short of full-bodied. Sticky mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Finishes lightly sweet, then boozy and bitter. Maybe a touch grassy. Dopplebock1538 (71), Sanatoga, Pennsylvania, USA

Although it may be that this beer might not always travel well-- and I have tasted a mediocre keg of it-- the proper Urthel 12 is simply my favourite beer of them all. It is everything that Belgian Ale should be for me: slightly sweet, rich, full, loaded with malt flavours and complexity. It was perfect-- a Karmeliet of Karmeliets. drfabulous (1254), Columbia, Missouri, USA

Got to love Urthel. And in the Urthel glass? Hey. I’m a beer geek. jason (1623), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Aug 24, 2006 bottle aged three years. Nothing stood out here. Mediocre all the way except for apperance. Felt like it was missing flavor, spices. Not too bad but not worth trying again. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 22, 2006 Bottle from Super Saver. Clear orangy deep coppery pour with 1-finger fluffy off-white head. Aroma of fruit, apple, pear, funky peaty malt, some candi sugar, even a hint of banana. The flavor was candi sugary and peaty malty, with funk notes coupled with slight florals, spiciness, and a very subdued banana nut bread element. Very complex and enjoyable, with well hidden alcohol. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 20, 2006 Clear gold, medium off white head, nice lace. Alcohol, orange, peach, yeast on the nose. Smooth medium body, lightly carbonated, very little stickiness. Sweet vinous character, lot of fruity undertones, some bittering hops dry it out after the swallow. Some chewiness in the finish, with a lingering mildly bitter aftertaste. Enjoyable.
