Light apricot fruitiness as it warms slightly. Hints of alcohol in the nose as well. Lightly grainy malt and floral hop as well. Well balanced, a slight bit to sweet at first, but finishes a bit semi dry. Crisp finish. Slightly peppery yeast and a bit bready malty flavored throughougt. A bit of herbal hop thrown in for good measure. Lighter body but not watery from higher level of carbonation. However, the mouthfeel is very warming, almost hot, and stings the mouth just a bit on it’s way down. Lightly dry in the mouth as well. Above average beer, but a below average Belg. strong for MY palate. Complexities are very subtle and a well made beer, but seems a bit too dry for me as I prefer more malty sweet strongs. yngwie (5024), Kristiansand, Norway

Served by the brewer at the beer-fair at the Belgium Embassy in Oslo. Orange beer with a large off-white head. The aroma has alcohol, hops and candi-sugar. Lovely flavor of dried fruits, malt, alcohol and hops. Sweet on the palate. Full body. A real winter ale. Rating: 8-4-8-4-17-4.1. 060328
Bottle, 33cl. It’s a clear, copper-colored beer topped by an off-white head of moderate size. Lacings. Quite lovely aroma, dried fruits, a pleasant alcohol sting, tropical fruits in syrup, semi-dark sugars, hop notes, medium dark steeped malts and some fresh fruits tickle the nose. It’s quite intensely warming in the mouth, but in a lovely vinouse way. Sugars, fruits in both dried, fresh and canned versions, bittering hops, some spicy touch and a hint of fruit caramel too. As the aroma, it’s vinous tending towards port. Some peppery notes as well, especially towards the finish. Smooth and silky on the palate, with a good warmth staying there and following the swallow down the throat. Full-bodied, not sticky, even though it’s a sweet one. Actually, in the end it feels dry. Lots of alcohol steeped raisins and alcohol in the finish, and a good bitterness trying to combat the malty flavors. The first two sips of it made me think I had rated it way too high last time, but as the glass emptied, I found out I hadn’t. This is a beer I would like to have crates of in my cellar, to enjoy through the dark, cold months. 091020 dogfishho (172), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA

Apperance is of a cloudy light golden color that looks very inviting, however the beer that lies within is not for the weak. Aroma and flavore are dominated by sweet malt tones with a slightly spicy peach flavor, something I have not yet experienced in a beer. Finish went on forever and a day. Very pleasing experience. cathcacr (592), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 26, 2006 Much like Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece Barry Lyndon, an inexplicably, ridiculously underrated beer. Orange-amber glowing hue with a frothy head that reminds me at first of a cumulonimbumbubblicious cloud. Flavor is that of a near-top-notch quadrupel with strong fruity highlights. Don’t ask me to pinpoint which fruits, as I haven’t the slightest, and it’s of little to no importance as long as it tastes good, which it does. Okay, I get some musty fizzy banana in the aroma, but that’s it! -- don’t ask me to delve any further. Okay, so maybe it’s not the twin sister of Stanley’s underheralded masterpiece, as that’s a perfect film, and this might not quite be the perfect beer. "I simply ask that you give yourself over to the experience." One of the most satisfying strong Belgian ales I’ve had.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 23, 2006 Clear amber color with a good deal of carbination, minimal head which does stick around for the long haul. Aroma is very sweet and nutty. Very sweet flavor, almost overboard, but not quite. Some spiciness on the end, also. Alcohol is noticable, but doesn’t detract from the taste. Decent. jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA

Sweet aroma of tropical fruits and caramel. Flavor was very sweet, but not quite cloying. Fruity, with some brown sugar and lots of alcohol. On first sip, I really liked this. But after a glass the sweetness got to me along with the alcohol. erway (1002), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Mar 13, 2006 On Tap at LUcky Bladwins: Pours clear amber with/ lots of belgian lacing. Aroma is candy-like sweet, some caramel but little esters, phenols and overall complexity. Overly thin body with high level of CO2. Heavily sweet and downright hot from lots of secondary alcohols and little aging. Oxidation is present as well. Finishes damn hot and too sweet. antzman (313), Clarksville, Indiana, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 11, 2006 Draft. Poured a bright amber with a very thick white head. The nose was very sweet, full of fruits. The flavor is also very sweet, with Belgian spices and plenty of fruit. A confusingly named beer, that had me wondering exactly what was a quadrium, but if it tastes this good, who cares.
