Urthel Samaranth 12 Quadrium Ale is a malty, full-bodied special Ale, brewed in a way that only Belgian Brewers can. Huge mouthfeel and layers and levels of flavor make Urthel Samaranth the perfect beer for the end of a meal or at the finish of a special day. And when you want something different, Urthel Samaranth 12 Quadrium Ale is with its fine bitterness, definitely something different... Try it! First brewed at Van Steenberge, now brewed at Koningshoeven - La Trappe brewery.

Urthel Samaranth 12 Quadrium was consumed at my standard 10 degrees Celsius. Its head was a bit poor. The smell was good, but its taste was too sweet. It could use more bitters to mask or rather explore the sweetness. Less sweetness is also an option. But that would make a whole other beer. Respect thus for its palate, it is a unity.

Bottle: Amber pour with a small beige head. Sweet and malty aroma with a lagerish feel. Lightly fruity. Flavor is again deeply malty with sweet and vinous fruits. Some toffee. Lighty dry and floral in the tail. Thanks Sam.

Very nice Quadrupel. Nice orange-brown colour with a longlasting head. Hints of bitterness, but not too overwhelming.

Dark orange-brown with a medium head. Aroma: sweet, port-like, yet earthy and nutty. Alcohol warmth, raisins, caramel. Big, sweet, fruity flavor. Huge caramel, dark fruits, cherries, heat. Wow!! Sweet but balanced by alcohol and a touch of tartness.

33 cl. Lasting creamy foam atop this mostly clear, deep-copper brew. Nose of pears and apples baked in brown sugar and earthy spices. Flavor is similar, with just a dash of rum and then some oak on the finish. Body is delicately smooth and dry. Nice creamy frosting left on the glass.

Without any expectations, I was surprised by the great, spicey aroma. Liquorice, port, caramel.

Koningshoeven has certainly put out better Quads than this. There was nothing particularly wrong with it, I just wasn’t impressed with as I have been with other brews from them. Nothing seemed to make this beer stand out from quads.
