Copper coloured with a firm, near white head. Aroma was toffeeish. Flavour was similarly of sweet caramel with a redeeming dry finish. Ok.

Amber with an off white head. Marmalade malt aroma, very sweet. Taste is toasty malt with a bit of fruitiness. slightly peachy perhaps. Gentle bitterness but aggressively carbonated.

Strong malty nose. Pours deep amber with a firm beige head. Flavour is malty and sweet at first but develops into a long bitter finish. Not bad, not amazing.

Bottled, pasteurised, 500ml. Red, brown with white, short head. Overboiled flavours to the fore, slightly cabbagy with a heavy carbonation effect. Thin tasting with a dose of caramel. Tinny finish.

500ml bottle from Sainsburys. Chesnut with a thich cream coloured head; caramel aroma; rather thin in the mouth with deep caramel malt and a strongly bitter finish.

Bottle (from Sainsburys). Slightly unpleasant burnt plastic nose but the main focus here is strong malt and nutty toffee with a fair level of bitterness in the finish. High carbonation made the body seem rather thin and combined with the unpleasant plastic aroma spoilt what was otherwise a fairly decent base.

Bottle from Sainsbuy’s. Poured a copper bronze, thin white head and moderate condition. Plenty of hops and a touch of sweet malt in the nose, full bodied and malty in the mouth with some fruity banana notes and a faint smokiness, hop bitter finish with some low malty caramel notes.

Bottle, from Sainsburys Kidlington. Poured a fairly standard brown maybe a touch darker. Good hoppy and fruity nose, taste was very fruity, quite suprised in fact at the full bodied fruitiness and bitterness of this beer. This was a really decent ESB.
